Which smart home platforms support Matter appliances?

SmartThings is the only platform MatterCheck rates Yes on all four capabilities — pairing, control, starting an automation, and being an automation action — for Matter appliances. The evidence is thin: the rating rests on SmartThings' official partner list plus a 2025 developer prototype fridge, so confidence is Med. Home Assistant pairs every Matter appliance type and can use appliance state to start automations, with Partial control because what you can operate depends on the appliance. Google Home lists dishwashers, washers and dryers (Partial). Apple Home supports only room air conditioners (Partial). Alexa maps room air conditioners and dishwashers (Partial), and whether an appliance can start a routine is Unknown. Every platform here is Med, and few native Matter appliances ship.

Matter appliance support at a glance

In this guide, Pairs means the platform accepts the appliance over Matter. Control means you can see status and operate it in the platform's app. Starts an automation means the appliance's state — running/stopped, on/off, an alarm — can start an automation. Automation action means an automation can operate it, like start/stop, on/off or mode. Partial here usually means only some appliance types work on that platform, or only some controls are exposed. High confidence needs an official statement plus a dated hands-on test. For appliances, listings, code and bridged tests don't reach High alone, so every platform here is Med.

Matter appliances on Apple Home (HomeKit)

Apple Home pairs and controls room air conditioners only among Matter appliances. Apple's Matter accessories page lists air conditioners, and dishwashers, washers and dryers are not listed. Apple's iOS 26 map turns a Matter room air conditioner (0x0072) into a heater-cooler accessory, and Apple's automation page says an accessory turning on or off can start an automation — that's why the starter is Partial rather than Unknown, unlike thermostats. The caveat: no test yet shows a Matter air conditioner actually starting an Apple Home automation.

For white goods, the "no" rests on omission and pre-release evidence. Matter Alpha's 2026-06-08 iOS 27 beta 1 coverage said major home appliances remain unsupported. An iOS 27 beta 3 map in a community bridge project's discussion added refrigerator, laundry washer, dishwasher, cooktop, oven and dryer as native types "not finished yet," but Apple's released iOS 27 notes and the AppleHome Authority 2026-09-14 release review mention no appliances. A community controller-compatibility table from 2026-09-23 marks Apple as unknown for dishwashers, washers and dryers on released iOS 27. Minimum iOS 16.1; a HomePod or Apple TV hub is recommended for remote access and automations.

Matter appliances on Google Home

Google Home lists Dishwasher and Laundry Washer on its Matter supported-devices page. Google added Matter dishwashers, washers and dryers on 2025-07-23, and the app's automation editor has an appliance running/stopped starter plus a start/stop action on select devices — the start/stop action arrived 2026-01-12 and doesn't cover ovens or robot vacuums. Google's consumer help page lists appliance running/stopped and oven state as starters.

Why Med: no native Matter dishwasher, washer or dryer added directly to Google Home has been tested. Bosch and other brands reach Google through a bridge or cloud link and aren't counted in MatterCheck's Google rating. A Google/Nest Matter hub is required, plus a Thread border router for Thread devices. The Google Home release notes document the 2025-07-23 appliance additions and the 2026-01-12 start/stop action.

Matter appliances on Alexa

Amazon's Matter categories page maps Room AC to PowerController plus ThermostatController, and Dishwasher to ModeController plus RangeController. Laundry washer isn't clearly mapped. A Matter bridge project's README says Alexa failed to recognise Matter laundry washers, dryers, refrigerators and ovens in a bridged test. Appliance state as a routine starter isn't documented — announcements (ProactiveNotificationSource) aren't routine starters — so the trigger is Unknown. Amazon's What's New page shows no new Matter categories since November 2024, with the newest entry from July 2026. A Matter-enabled Echo or eero hub is required.

Matter appliances on SmartThings

SmartThings is the only platform rated Yes on all four capabilities. The SmartThings Matter partner list names a broad Appliances set — dishwasher, washer, dryer, oven, fridge, room AC and more — which is the basis for Yes across pairing, control, automation trigger and automation action.

The evidence is thin, though. The only dated report is a SmartThings Community developer prototype Matter refrigerator from 2025-06-09, with commissioning timeouts and random missing attributes — a developer device, not a consumer test. No consumer native Matter appliance test was found, so confidence is Med. A SmartThings-compatible hub is required (standalone hub, Samsung TV, Station, etc.).

Matter appliances in Home Assistant

Home Assistant's Matter code names Dishwasher, LaundryWasher, LaundryDryer, Oven, Cooktop, Refrigerator, RoomAirConditioner and ExtractorHood, and maps RoomAirConditioner to a climate entity. You get operational-state sensors, start/pause/resume/stop buttons when the device accepts them, dishwasher and fridge alarm sensors, mode selects and temperature-control numbers. HA 2025.8 added temperature control for fridges and ovens, per Matter Alpha's 2025-07-31 report.

The dated hands-ons are mostly bridged. A Smart Home Centre walkthrough from 2025-04-30 shows a Bosch dishwasher via the Smart Kitchen Dock: operational state, programme select, start/pause/resume/stop, power switch, used as trigger and action, plus a washer-done automation. Smartifiers' 2026-07-26 article says HA gets mode, start-stop and sensor data for washers, dishwashers and fridges via the dock. For room ACs, a GitHub issue from 2025-06-18 to 2025-09-10 shows a Midea Matter window AC as a climate entity with only cool/off modes. Ovens and cooktops rest on code with no real-product test. Control and action are Partial because they depend on each appliance's Matter map and remote-control enable. You need the Home Assistant Matter Server (HA OS recommended) and a Thread border router for Thread devices.

Matter appliance support by appliance type

Dishwashers

Google Home lists dishwashers on its Matter supported-devices page. SmartThings lists dishwashers in its partner list. Alexa maps Dishwasher to ModeController and RangeController. Apple Home does not list dishwashers. Home Assistant has dishwasher entities, and the Smart Home Centre 2025-04-30 hands-on tested a Bosch dishwasher through the Smart Kitchen Dock bridge. The Midea built-in dishwasher is a CSA-certified native Matter dishwasher — reportedly the only certified one as of 2026, per a secondary source.

Washers and dryers

Google Home lists Laundry Washer and added washers and dryers on 2025-07-23. SmartThings lists washers and dryers. Alexa does not clearly map laundry washers, and a bridged test failed to recognise washers and dryers. Apple Home does not list washers or dryers. Home Assistant has washer and dryer entities, including a washer-done automation through the Smart Kitchen Dock bridge.

Refrigerators

SmartThings lists fridges, and its only dated appliance report is a 2025 developer prototype fridge. Home Assistant has refrigerator entities, alarm sensors and temperature control (HA 2025.8). Alexa's bridged test failed to recognise refrigerators. Apple Home does not list fridges on released iOS 27, despite an iOS 27 beta 3 map adding the type as "not finished yet." The Bosch 100 Series fridge is a native Matter 1.3 fridge over Wi-Fi, with Alexa named in BSH's press; Apple and Google behaviour isn't verified.

Ovens and cooktops

SmartThings lists ovens in its partner list. Home Assistant's code names Oven and Cooktop, with mode selects and temperature control, but no real-product test exists. Google Home's start/stop action does not cover ovens (oven state can still appear as a starter). Alexa and Apple Home don't list ovens as supported Matter types.

Room air conditioners

Apple Home lists room air conditioners and maps them to heater-cooler accessories. Alexa maps Room AC to PowerController and ThermostatController. Google Home's supported-devices page doesn't list room ACs as a named row. Home Assistant maps RoomAirConditioner to a climate entity, with a Midea window AC tested showing only cool/off modes. The GE AWCS08WWB window AC and AC Infinity AC-TFH12 portable AC are tracked native Matter room ACs.

Native Matter vs bridged appliances (Bosch, Siemens and the Smart Kitchen Dock)

Native appliances carry Matter themselves. The Midea dishwasher, GE and AC Infinity air conditioners, and Bosch fridges with Matter by OTA are native. Bosch and Siemens Home Connect appliances mostly reach Matter through the BSH Smart Kitchen Dock bridge, which needs the Home Connect app and account to get a pairing code. Exposure varies by appliance, platform and region. MatterCheck's Google rating doesn't count bridged appliances, and Home Assistant's dishwasher and washer tests were bridged — see the 2025-04-30 Smart Home Centre walkthrough and Smartifiers' 2026-07-26 overview. The Midea washer/dryer and TCL air conditioners were seen on public lists but aren't CSA certified, so MatterCheck hasn't added them.

Room air conditioners vs thermostats

Matter room air conditioners (0x0072) sit in the appliances row, not the thermostat row. Apple maps a room AC to a heater-cooler accessory, so on/off can start an automation, while a Matter thermostat's starter is Unknown on Apple. Home Assistant uses a climate entity for both — with the Midea AC caveat that only cool/off modes were exposed. See Matter thermostat support and the thermostat type page for the separate thermostat values.

Thread or Wi-Fi: what you need

Most tracked appliances use Matter over Wi-Fi (Midea dishwasher, Bosch fridge, GE window AC, Smart Kitchen Dock). The AC Infinity portable AC uses Thread and needs a Thread border router. Each platform still needs its Matter hub or controller — see the hubs page and the Matter hub and Thread border router guide.

Troubleshooting Matter appliances

Which platform is best for Matter appliances?

Home Assistant's Matter integration has the deepest per-appliance controls and the only dated hands-on automations — but those are bridged Bosch appliances through the Smart Kitchen Dock. SmartThings lists the broadest set officially on its Matter partners page, yet has no consumer test yet. Google Home is useful for dishwashers, washers and dryers with running/stopped starters and start/stop actions on select devices. Apple Home is for room air conditioners only today. Alexa handles room AC and dishwasher control, but not as routine starters on current evidence. Matter multi-admin may let you control an appliance on one platform and automate on another — see the multi-admin page and the platform comparison guide.

Frequently asked questions

Does Apple Home support Matter dishwashers or washing machines?

Not on current evidence. Apple Home lists room air conditioners only. An iOS 27 beta map added dishwashers, washers and dryers as "not finished yet," but released iOS 27 notes don't mention them.

Does Google Home support Matter appliances?

Partially. Google lists dishwashers and laundry washers (added washers and dryers on 2025-07-23) with running/stopped starters and start/stop actions on select devices. No native Matter appliance added directly to Google Home has been tested yet.

Does Alexa work with Matter appliances?

Partially. Alexa maps Room AC and Dishwasher for control; laundry washers, dryers, fridges and ovens aren't clearly mapped. Whether an appliance can start an Alexa routine is Unknown.

Can SmartThings control Matter appliances?

SmartThings lists dishwashers, washers, dryers, ovens, fridges and room ACs, and MatterCheck rates it Yes on all four. The only dated report is a 2025 developer prototype fridge, so confidence is Med.

Is a Bosch dishwasher a Matter appliance?

Most Bosch dishwashers reach Matter through the BSH Smart Kitchen Dock bridge, which needs a Home Connect account. Exposure varies by appliance, platform and region.

Can a Matter dishwasher or washer start an automation when it finishes?

In Home Assistant, yes — the Smart Home Centre 2025-04-30 walkthrough used a bridged Bosch dishwasher's operational state as a trigger and included a washer-done automation. Google Home has an appliance running/stopped starter on select devices. On Apple Home and Alexa, cycle-finished as a trigger isn't documented for dishwashers or washers.

Do Matter air conditioners work with Apple Home?

Room air conditioners are the one appliance type Apple lists, and Apple's iOS 26 map turns a Matter room AC into a heater-cooler accessory. On/off should be able to start an automation, but no test yet shows a Matter AC starting an Apple Home automation.

How we checked

Values come from MatterCheck matrix v1.15, with appliance values last checked 2026-10-18 to 2026-10-19 depending on the platform. High confidence needs an official statement covering the feature plus a dated hands-on test of the device type on that platform. For appliances, official listings, developer code and bridged tests don't reach High on their own, so every platform here is Med until a dated native appliance test lands. See the methodology, the appliances type page and the hubs page.
