Which smart home platforms support Matter robot vacuums?

All five platforms we track can pair and control a Matter robot vacuum, but automation behavior varies. Google Home, SmartThings, and Home Assistant are the best verified: High confidence that the vacuum can both start an automation and be an automation action. Apple Home, since iOS 18.4, controls Matter robot vacuums and can use them as scenes and automation actions, but it can’t use the vacuum’s state as a trigger (Med). Amazon Alexa controls them, but whether a Matter vacuum’s state can start an Alexa Routine is still Unknown (Med). We don’t rank vacuums as “best”; we track the models below and note what’s verified.

Matter robot vacuums on Apple Home (HomeKit)

Apple Home pairs and controls Matter robot vacuums with iOS/iPadOS 18.4 or later; a HomePod or Apple TV hub on tvOS/HomePod 18.4 is recommended for remote access and required for full automations, and Thread devices need a Thread border router. Apple’s iOS 18.4 release notes say Matter-compatible robot vacuum cleaners can be controlled in the Home app and added to scenes and automations. A 2026-04-09 Matter Alpha how-to lists whole-home clean, room select/exclude, pause/resume/dock, suction and mop power, lost-vacuum chime, status alerts, and scheduling/scenes/automations with the vacuum as the action.

The big limitation is trigger support. Apple’s Matter accessory list published May 07, 2026 still omits robot vacuums, and no Apple page documents a Matter vacuum state starting an automation. Two independent Homebridge plugin authors state that Apple Home cannot trigger automations directly on a Matter vacuum’s state; the homebridge-roborock-matter README says a Matter vacuum is not offered as an automation trigger at all. That keeps Starts an automation at No with Med confidence.

Matter robot vacuums on Google Home

Google Home has the fullest verified setup: the vacuum pairs, controls, its running state can start an automation, and it can be an automation action, all at High confidence. Google’s Matter supported-devices table lists Robot Vacuum Cleaner, and the full Script Editor schema includes StartStop/Dock commands and running state for automations.

Be aware the simpler Google Home app automation editor is a subset. Google Home release notes show robot-vacuum pause/resume/dock actions arrived 2026-01-12, but start is not supported as an appliance start/stop action on robot vacuums, and a “vacuum is docked” starter arrived 2026-02-02. That’s confirmed in the Google Home Help page. A 2025-12-24 MESH hands-on shared a Roborock Qrevo C Pro into Google Home and saw clean mode, run mode, return to dock, and battery, but no stop or locate.

Matter robot vacuums on Amazon Alexa

Alexa pairs and controls a Matter robot vacuum; Amazon maps the vacuum’s RVC Run Mode to ModeController. The live Amazon Matter categories table, updated 2026-04-08, lists only run mode states of idle, cleaning, and mapping, so Alexa may not see docked or finished states at all. A SmartHomeWorkflow guide updated 2026-10-14 marks this capability as control only or not stated for Alexa.

Routine triggers from a vacuum’s state are the unknown part. Roborock cleaning-started or completed starters come from its own Alexa skill and the Custom Triggers developer preview, not from a Matter ModeController starter. Bridge software docs say Alexa does not discover bridged vacuums but does control a shared standalone Matter device, with no room picker. No dated test shows a Matter vacuum starting an Alexa Routine, so the trigger stays Unknown at Med confidence.

Matter robot vacuums on SmartThings

SmartThings is another High-confidence option: the vacuum pairs, controls, can start an automation, and can be an automation action. SmartThings lists Robotic Vacuum Cleaner on its Matter partners page, and independent owner tests from 2026-07-06 to 2026-08-04 with an Ecovacs T90 Pro on the stock Matter vacuum driver show the vacuum working in routines.

There are two practical caveats. The SmartThings Community thread reports that routines cannot select cleaning areas even though area choice works in the device page, with a Rules API workaround. A 2026-08-10 owner report adds that routine status options are narrower than the states shown in the app.

Matter robot vacuums on Home Assistant

Home Assistant also reaches High confidence across pairing, control, trigger, and action. The Home Assistant Matter integration lists the vacuum domain, and automations are supported. A 2025-12-24 MESH hands-on shared a Roborock Qrevo C Pro over Matter and got start, pause, stop, dock, clean mode, operating state, battery, and errors.

Room cleaning is getting better, but not complete everywhere. Matter Alpha reported on 2026-02-27 that Home Assistant 2026.3 beta added Matter vacuum service areas so automations and scripts can send room cleaning, while room picking in the device card is still incomplete. SwitchBot’s K20+ Pro was also confirmed as a standalone Matter vacuum in the Works with Home Assistant program on 2025-06-26.

What Matter can and can’t do for a robot vacuum

Matter robot vacuum support centers on the basics: start, stop, pause, dock, operating state, battery, and run or clean mode. On Apple Home, that can include room select/exclude, suction and mop power, lost-vacuum chime, and status alerts. Home Assistant automations can send room cleaning from 2026.3, but SmartThings routines cannot pick cleaning areas. Amazon Alexa may only see run mode, not docked or finished states.

Matter is not a replacement for the maker’s app. Maps, no-go zones, schedules, and advanced mop or mapping features generally stay in the manufacturer’s app, as noted in the Roborock, Dreame, ECOVACS, SwitchBot, and Tapo product records we track. The robot vacuum type is Matter 1.2 and later, but some certified products are Matter 1.4.

Which platform is best for a Matter robot vacuum?

If you want the vacuum to start when you leave and also want the vacuum’s state to trigger something else when it docks, Google Home, SmartThings, or Home Assistant are the strongest choices. Apple Home works well for “start cleaning when everyone leaves” style actions and room-based cleaning from the Home app, but not for automations triggered by the vacuum’s state. Alexa is fine for voice and app control, but don’t count on a Matter vacuum starting a Routine there.

One vacuum can also be shared across platforms. MESH’s 2025-12-24 test shared the same Roborock Qrevo C Pro into both Google Home and Home Assistant over Matter, which is a practical example of Matter multi-admin. See multi-admin for the details.

Matter robot vacuums we track

We don’t rank vacuums; this is the list we track and what’s verified.

How we checked

The values above come from the MatterCheck matrix v1.14, with each platform cell last checked on 2026-10-18. High confidence requires an official statement plus a dated hands-on test on that platform Med means one of those is missing: on Apple Home and Alexa, official pages cover control and actions, but the trigger answer rests on community evidence (Apple) or has no evidence either way (Alexa). See methodology, the live robot vacuum page, multi-admin, and hubs for more.
