MatterCheck compatibility note · Aqara Smart Thermostat W400

The Aqara Smart Thermostat W400 is a wall-mounted touchscreen thermostat sold in FCU (WT-A02D) and VRF (WT-A01D) versions. It is CSA-certified as a Matter thermostat (certificate CSA25F5EMAT48816-50, dated 2025-12-02), with Wi-Fi listed as the Matter transport in MatterCheck's SKU record. Retailers also list Zigbee 3.0 and Bluetooth. MatterCheck has no product-specific platform test yet, so the W400 follows the thermostat device type matrix: Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings, Home Assistant, Homey, and Hubitat all show Yes for pairing and control.

Aqara Smart Thermostat W400 Matter transport and CSA cert

According to MatterCheck's SKU record, the W400's Matter transport is Wi-Fi, not Thread. Retail pages list Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac on 2.4GHz and 5GHz, Zigbee IEEE 802.15.4, and Bluetooth. Because Wi-Fi is the Matter transport, a Thread border router is not required for the W400's own Matter connection; see MatterCheck's Thread vs Wi-Fi guide. For Zigbee sub-device features, Modo says an Aqara Zigbee hub is required. The CSA DCL record (vid 4447, pid 18446) names the product "Aqara Smart Thermostat W400" with part number AA012 and the thermostat device type. MatterCheck's SKU record gives the CSA certificate as CSA25F5EMAT48816-50, certified 2025-12-02; no decoded Matter spec version or firmware version is published in these sources.

Aqara Smart Thermostat W400 platform support table

These are MatterCheck's type-level matrix answers for thermostat, not product-specific tests. The W400's SKU note says platform support follows this type matrix and no product-specific platform test has been reviewed yet.

None of the W400-specific sources documents direct Matter pairing to individual platforms. SpanningGlobal's Chinese-version listing says the product is used with a Chinese-version Aqara hub and that bridging through the Aqara M3 hub via Aqara Matter can connect devices to Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Aqara Home. That describes Aqara hub bridging, not a product-specific W400 Matter controller test.

Aqara Smart Thermostat W400 cross-platform support differences

At the thermostat type level, Google Home, SmartThings, Home Assistant, Homey, and Hubitat are marked Yes for both automation trigger and automation action. Apple Home and Amazon Alexa are Yes for pairing, control, and automation action, but their automation trigger cells are Unknown in MatterCheck's matrix; no official source or dated hands-on report confirms that a thermostat state change can start an Apple Home or Alexa routine for the W400. Modo describes Aqara ecosystem scenes such as turning off AC when a window sensor triggers or starting cooling when someone enters the room, but that is not confirmation of Matter automation triggers. See MatterCheck's Matter thermostat support guide for thermostat-specific platform details.

Aqara Smart Thermostat W400 setup, specs, and wiring warnings

  • Wi-Fi without hub: Modo and PassionHome say no hub is needed for Wi-Fi functions; an Aqara Zigbee hub is required only for Zigbee sub-devices. MatterCheck's Aqara Matter guide covers Aqara hub bridging.
  • Matter transport: MatterCheck's SKU record lists Wi-Fi as the Matter transport, so pairing should happen over Wi-Fi rather than Thread.
  • Chinese-version setup: SpanningGlobal says to set the Aqara app region to mainland China for the Chinese version and use it with a Chinese-version Aqara hub.
  • Factory reset: Modo's FAQ gives Swipe down > Settings > Advanced Settings > Factory Reset, or hold the top button for 10+ seconds.
  • Models and systems: JustCare lists WT-A02D for selected compatible 2-pipe and 4-pipe fan coil systems; Modo lists WT-A01D for VRF, split ACs, underfloor heating, and fresh air units.
  • Electrical: 220–250V AC, 50/60Hz. JustCare contrasts this with many Nest and Ecobee thermostats designed for 24V systems.
  • Wireless: Wi-Fi 2.4GHz/5GHz, Zigbee 3.0, Bluetooth; the panel can act as a Zigbee repeater (PassionHome, Modo).
  • Display and size: 4-inch touchscreen; 86 × 86 × 44 mm; flame-retardant ABS plus glass; up to six pages and ten layout styles (PassionHome, Modo).
  • Installation: Fits standard 86mm wall boxes; Modo says place centrally for Zigbee range and avoid metal enclosures and thick barriers.
  • Wiring warnings: Modo says incorrect wiring may still power on but can create electric shock risks or unresponsive switching; JustCare recommends professional compatibility assessment and installation.
  • Pricing: S$339 at PassionHome.sg; AED 770 at Modo; AED 580 at SpanningGlobal.

Aqara Smart Thermostat W400 FCU vs VRF variant choice

JustCare warns the FCU and VRF variants are not interchangeable. WT-A02D is for selected compatible 2-pipe and 4-pipe FCU systems; WT-A01D is for VRF, split ACs, underfloor heating, and fresh air units. Before ordering, confirm whether the property uses 2-pipe or 4-pipe FCU wiring, valve type, fan speed count, live/neutral availability, and existing thermostat terminal configuration.

Aqara Smart Thermostat W400 vs 24V Nest and Ecobee

JustCare's product page says the W400 FCU runs on 220–250V AC, unlike many Nest and Ecobee thermostats that target low-voltage 24V HVAC systems. It says this can make a dedicated FCU thermostat more appropriate for some mains-powered UAE fan coil installations than converting the system to a conventional 24V thermostat architecture. This is a retailer claim about suitability, not a lab comparison.

Aqara Smart Thermostat W400 buy or skip

  • Buy if you have a compatible 2-pipe/4-pipe FCU or VRF/split/floor-heating system and want a 220–250V AC wall panel with Wi-Fi, Zigbee, and Bluetooth.
  • Buy if you want no hub for Wi-Fi functions and a panel that can act as a Zigbee repeater.
  • Skip if you need confirmed direct Matter automation-trigger support for Apple Home or Amazon Alexa; MatterCheck's type matrix marks those as Unknown and no W400-specific review confirms them.
  • Skip if your HVAC wiring or system type is not confirmed compatible; retailer pages warn about electric shock risk and unresponsive switching with incorrect wiring.
