The GL.iNet AIO Presence Sensor LWR02 (part number LWR02) is a battery-powered 5-in-1 sensor that detects presence, motion, temperature, humidity, and ambient light. It connects through Matter over Thread, so it needs a Thread border router plus a Matter controller. GL.iNet's own compatibility list includes Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, Home Assistant, and Homey, and MatterCheck's type-level matrix for motion/occupancy devices also marks Hubitat as Yes for pairing and control.
GL.iNet LWR02 uses Matter over Thread and Bluetooth
The CSA-IOT certified product listing gives the transport interfaces as Thread and Bluetooth for LWR02 (vendor ID 0x1590, product ID 0xA002). GL.iNet describes it as Matter over Thread on IEEE 802.15.4 at 2.4 GHz. A Thread device like this needs a Thread border router and Matter controller; it does not connect directly over Wi-Fi. MatterCheck's Matter Thread vs Wi-Fi guide explains the border-router dependency, and the Matter hub Thread border router guide shows which hubs can provide it.
Platform support for the GL.iNet LWR02
These are MatterCheck's type-level matrix answers for the motion/occupancy device type, not product-specific hands-on results. See the Matter motion sensor support guide for more on what this device type exposes. GL.iNet's LWR02 page names Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, Home Assistant and Homey; Hubitat is not in that product page's list.
| Platform | Pairs | Control | Starts automations | Controlled by automations |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Home | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Google Home | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Amazon Alexa | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| SmartThings | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Home Assistant | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Homey | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Hubitat | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
Across the matrix, every platform is Yes for pairing, control and starting automations, and No for being controlled by automations, meaning LWR02 can trigger routines but is not a controllable output. Hubitat's Yes is type-level; GL.iNet does not name Hubitat on the LWR02 product page.
LWR02 setup, pairing, and GL.iNet placement guidance
GL.iNet's FAQ says to enter pairing or factory-reset mode, press and hold the side button for 8 to 16 seconds and release; the LED flashes orange. If pairing fails, GL.iNet says to confirm the phone and Thread border router are on the same local network, restart the hub, and check that IPv6 is enabled, including for Home Assistant, Alexa, and external Thread border routers. MatterCheck's Matter device not pairing guide covers similar commissioning checks. For security, the Lafaer app supports pairing with only one phone at a time.
GL.iNet lists these Thread border router examples by platform:
- Apple HomeKit: Apple TV 4K (2nd/3rd gen), HomePod (2nd gen), HomePod mini.
- Amazon Alexa: Echo (4th gen), Echo Hub, Echo Plus (2nd gen), Echo Show 8/10, Echo Studio, eero Pro 6E, eero Pro 6, eero 6+, eero 6, eero PoE 6, eero PoE Gateway, eero Max 7.
- Google Home: Nest Hub (2nd gen), Nest Hub Max, Nest Wifi Pro, Google TV Streamer.
- Samsung SmartThings: SmartThings Hub v3, SmartThings Station.
- Homey: Homey Pro (2023), Homey Pro Mini.
- Home Assistant: Home Assistant Yellow, SkyConnect.
For placement, GL.iNet recommends horizontal installation. Vertical installation is not advised, but if necessary, place the LWR02 at or slightly above target height and angle it downward. Avoid large glass surfaces and moving objects such as fans or curtains to reduce false triggers.
GL.iNet LWR02 specifications and owner reports
- Price: $49.99 on GL.iNet's product page.
- Sensing: mmWave radar plus PIR for presence, motion, temperature, humidity, and ambient light.
- Detection: presence up to 4 m (13 ft), motion up to 8 m (26 ft), about 120° field of view. Motion: 0° to 8 m, ±30° to 7 m, ±60° to 5.5 m. Presence: 0° to 4 m, ±30° to 3.5 m, ±60° to 3 m.
- Battery: two AAA batteries included, up to two years; rechargeable batteries supported (not included per GL.iNet FAQ).
- Protection: IPX3 against water spray; operating temperature 0–40°C (32–104°F).
- Mounting: magnetic wall mount, two adhesive wall-mount pads, shelf placement, or metal surfaces; hemispherical base with 360° angle adjustment.
- Dimensions: 71 × 46 × 36 mm device only; 71 × 46 × 49 mm with stand.
- Wireless: Matter over Thread, IEEE 802.15.4 2.4 GHz; CSA lists Thread and Bluetooth transport interfaces.
The datasheet says all communication is local with no cloud required, and the Lafaer app can adjust detection sensitivity. A customer review on GL.iNet's store from C reports that Home Assistant exposes humidity, illuminance, occupancy and temperature sensors, with occupancy sometimes almost instant and sometimes taking a few seconds, and illuminance taking 5 to 10 seconds to update after a light change. Another store review from George B. calls it smaller, faster responding, and a welcome upgrade with more sensors.
GL.iNet AIO Presence Sensor LWR02 buy/skip
- Buy if you want a battery-powered Matter-over-Thread presence sensor with temperature, humidity and ambient light, and you already use Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings, Home Assistant or Homey with a Thread border router.
- Buy if you want an IPX3-rated, compact sensor with magnetic, adhesive or shelf mounting and a claimed two-year AAA battery life.
- Skip if you have no Thread border router or your network lacks IPv6; GL.iNet says both can cause pairing problems.
- Skip if you need two phones connected to the Lafaer app at once; GL.iNet supports only one phone for security.
- Skip if you require a Hubitat statement from GL.iNet itself; the LWR02 page does not list Hubitat even though the type matrix says Yes.
