The Innovation Matters IM Pushbutton Module (part MPB-4-1, CSA product name IM Pushbutton Module) is a mains-powered Matter pushbutton input module. It wires behind an existing wall switch in a 68 mm back box, connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, with no Thread border router or bridge required, and exposes four pushbutton inputs as a Matter Generic Switch or Matter Dimmer Switch. Innovation Matters lists compatibility with Apple Home, Home Assistant, Samsung SmartThings, and Homey. MatterCheck's switch_button type matrix also gives pairing support for Google Home and Amazon Alexa at the type level.

IM Pushbutton Module: Matter Wi-Fi pushbutton and dimmer input

According to the CSA product page, the current certificate is CSA2554FMAT46241-24, certified July 28, 2025, with firmware version 2.0, hardware version 1.0, Matter specification version 1.4, product ID 0x0002, vendor ID 0x1372, and transport interfaces Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. A separate certificate, CSA241A5MAT43096-24, also appears in the CSA listing for the IM Pushbutton Module; its certification date and firmware version are not given in the provided sources. The CSA DCL model record for vid 4978 pid 2 lists the product name as IM Pushbutton Module and part number MPB-4-1, with primary Matter device type Generic Switch.

The Innovation Matters datasheet specifies Wi-Fi 2.4 to 2.5 GHz communication and says the module connects over an IPv6 Wi-Fi network. The shop page says it does not require a Thread Border Router; it uses IPv6 Wi-Fi and is commissioned via the QR code on the housing. See MatterCheck's Matter Thread vs Wi-Fi guide for background on that transport choice.

Platform support for the IM Pushbutton Module

These are MatterCheck's type-level matrix answers for the switch_button device type, not a product-specific test of this exact module. See the MatterCheck switch_button type page.

Innovation Matters' shop page specifically names Apple Home, Home Assistant, Samsung SmartThings, and Homey as compatible with the module. It does not provide a product-specific compatibility statement for Google Home, Amazon Alexa, or Hubitat. In MatterCheck's matrix, Google Home and Amazon Alexa are Yes for pairing at the switch_button type level, while Hubitat is Partial for pairing. No product-specific dated hands-on report for those three platforms appears in the provided sources.

Cross-platform comparison for the IM Pushbutton Module

Across MatterCheck's switch_button matrix, Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings, Home Assistant, and Homey share the same scores: Yes for pairs, Partial for control, Yes for starts automations, and No for controlled by automations. Hubitat differs only on pairs, where the matrix says Partial. Control is Partial on every platform, meaning not all switch or button functions are universally exposed. This module can also be compared with other Matter button and switch devices through MatterCheck's comparison page.

IM Pushbutton Module modes, specs, wiring and mounting

Innovation Matters' datasheet describes two modes:

  • Generic Switch mode: each of the 4 pushbutton inputs can perform up to three control mechanisms: short press below 0.5 s, long press above 0.5 s, and multi press as two presses with below 0.25 s delay. The shop page summarizes this as 4 inputs x 3 gestures = 12 assignable functions.
  • Dimmer Switch mode: a Matter controller can set up a direct peer-to-peer connection called binding between the pushbutton and any Matter device controllable via OnOff and LevelControl commands. A short press toggles on/off, and a long press alternates increasing or decreasing the current level. Innovation Matters says actions assigned to single, long, and multi press on the same input should first be removed, otherwise sent commands can interfere.

Datasheet technical data:

  • Model name IM-0002; article number 0002; dimensions 43 x 38 x 18 mm; lifetime up to 50,000 h.
  • Rated supply voltage 110 to 240 V, 50/60 Hz; max power input 1.5 W.
  • Connections: L, N, N, and S1 to S4 for four buttons.
  • Wi-Fi frequency 2.4 to 2.5 GHz; max E.I.R.P. below +18.22 dBm for 802.11b and below +19.99 dBm for 802.11g/n.
  • Wire clamping section 0.5 to 1.5 mm2 IEC/EN, or 22 to 14 AWG US/CAN; terminal screw tightening torque 0.3 Nm.
  • Ambient temperature -20 to +60 degrees C; transport/storage -40 to +75 degrees C.
  • Rated impulse voltage 4000 V; overvoltage category III; control pollution degree 2; purpose of control operating, type 1 action.
  • Datasheet lists ENEC, UL and Matter certification.
  • Shop page price: 33.00 EUR.

Installation and mounting notes from the datasheet:

  • Installation must be done by an authorized electrician; the line-wire connects to L and the neutral-wire to one of the two N terminals.
  • Use solid wires or stranded wires with ferrules; follow the datasheet's stripping length to avoid short circuits in conductive cavity wall boxes.
  • Standard cavity wall boxes are recommended as minimum installation space: Europe 68 mm diameter; North America 3" x 2". For standard European pushbuttons, boxes with depth over 60 mm are recommended.
  • In conductive enclosures, wrap terminals with 2 to 3 layers of insulating tape and tighten unused terminal input screws.
  • Avoid powered cables in the antenna area to increase operating range.

Setup and manufacturer-reported behavior for the IM Pushbutton Module

According to the shop page, commissioning uses the QR code on the housing, and because the module uses Wi-Fi, no Thread border router is required. MatterCheck's Matter hub and Thread border router guide explains the border-router role that this device does not need. The shop page also mentions standard 68 mm flush-mounted or hollow wall boxes and says installation should be carried out by a professional.

Innovation Matters' March 14, 2024 release post by Soner Yorulmaz says the module transforms traditional wall switches into smart control elements, with single press, double-click, and long press available to operate devices or activate scenes. The company's August 2025 firmware release note says the update upgrades the Matter SDK to version 1.4 and improves interoperability and device stability. The shop page's typical applications include movie night, good night, good morning, and retrofitting an existing switch location for scene control.

For pairing problems, see MatterCheck's Matter device not pairing guide. If sharing the module with more than one platform, the Matter multi-admin sharing guide covers Matter multi-admin generally.

IM Pushbutton Module verdict

  • Buy if you want a mains-powered Matter button or switch input that fits behind an existing European 68 mm or North American 3" x 2" wall box and works over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi without a Thread border router.
  • Buy if you need four physical inputs with short, long, and double press, or a direct Matter binding dimmer mode using OnOff and LevelControl.
  • Skip if you need the module itself to switch line voltage; Innovation Matters says the module does not switch itself, it triggers scenes or devices.
  • Skip if you are looking for product-specific Hubitat, Google Home, or Amazon Alexa setup steps; the sources only name Apple Home, Home Assistant, SmartThings, and Homey as compatible, and the MatterCheck matrix's Hubitat pairing answer is Partial.
