The Tapo Presence sensor dimmer switch (TP-Link part number S535D) is a Matter-over-Wi-Fi in-wall dimmer with built-in human presence and ambient light sensors. Its CSA record lists deviceTypeId 257, which MatterCheck maps to its dimmable color light type. TP-Link's official page calls it a Human Presence Sensor Smart Wi-Fi Light Switch and marks it Coming Soon. MatterCheck's type-level matrix shows Yes for pairing and control on Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings, Home Assistant, Homey, and Hubitat; TP-Link names Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant for voice control.

Tapo S535D Matter Transport and CSA Certification

The SKU record lists Wi-Fi transport and no Thread role. Notebookcheck's March 19, 2026 report on the CSA listing also says the CSA page lists Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Since there is no Thread role in the record, a Thread border router is not part of what the record specifies; for the differences, see MatterCheck's Matter over Wi-Fi vs Thread guide. The DCL model record gives vendor ID 5010, product ID 519, product label "Presence sensor dimmer switch," part number S535D, and deviceTypeId 257. The SKU record adds CSA certificate ID CSA261GNMAT51303-50, certified March 17, 2026, but the available sources do not state a Matter spec version or firmware for S535D.

Tapo S535D Presence Detection and Ambient Light Sensor

TP-Link describes the S535D as having built-in presence and ambient light sensors. On the official product page, TP-Link says its human presence detection turns lights on and keeps them on when presence is detected, then turns them off after you leave, and that this is designed to work "reliably in study rooms and bedrooms, overcoming the limitations of standard PIR sensors." TP-Link says presence detection "works reliably in study rooms and bedrooms, overcoming the limitations of standard PIR sensors."

None of the available records calls the light-sensing part an "LDR." Notebookcheck reported in March 2026 that the switch has a built-in ambient light sensor, and said it could be used to automatically adjust brightness. TP-Link's Smart Auto Lighting description says the built-in presence and ambient light sensors make the switch smarter, enabling the light to turn on only when it is dark and presence is detected.

Notebookcheck described the switch as having an integrated sensor and, citing the product page, a built-in ambient light sensor, and that energy usage monitoring is expected via the brand's app.

Tapo S535D Matter Platform Matrix

The table below copies MatterCheck's type-level matrix answers for dimmable color light devices, not a product-specific lab test for S535D.

Product-specific platform behavior for the S535D is not yet documented in the available official or dated hands-on reports. TP-Link's S535D page names Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant for voice control, but it does not yet list SmartThings, Home Assistant, Homey, or Hubitat features. Amazon Alexa's Partial under "Starts automations" is the type-level matrix value.

S535D Cross-Platform Comparison

In MatterCheck's type-level matrix, all seven platforms show Yes for pairing and control. Apple Home, Google Home, SmartThings, Home Assistant, Homey, and Hubitat all show Yes for both starting automations and being controlled by automations. Amazon Alexa shows Yes for pairing, control, and being controlled by automations, but only Partial for starting automations. No source gives a product-specific deviation for S535D, so the type-level matrix is the extent of what MatterCheck shows for this model. TP-Link's official page only calls out Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant for voice commands; Matter over Wi-Fi can also support multi-admin sharing across Matter ecosystems, but the S535D page does not detail it.

Tapo S535D Setup, Specs and Limits

TP-Link has not published setup steps or exact menu names for S535D; the official page is marked Coming Soon. Notebookcheck says the CSA page lists Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and that Matter compatibility should allow the device to integrate with a wide range of smart home ecosystems. Until TP-Link publishes S535D instructions, there are no exact S535D onboarding paths to cite. For the related Tapo Matter line and common pairing issues, see MatterCheck's Tapo and Kasa Matter device guide and Matter not pairing guide.

  • Model identity: DCL record lists "Presence sensor dimmer switch," part number S535D, vendor ID 5010, product ID 519.
  • Sensor behavior: TP-Link says lights turn on and stay on when presence is detected, then turn off after you leave; it says presence detection overcomes limitations of standard PIR sensors in study rooms and bedrooms.
  • Smart Auto Lighting: TP-Link says light turns on only when it is dark and presence is detected.
  • Dimming: TP-Link describes "Adaptive Perceptual Dimming" with smoother brightness adjustments to reduce eye strain.
  • Smart Light Mode: TP-Link says it can control Tapo smart lights so switch presses won't cut power to backend loads.
  • Voice control: TP-Link lists Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant.
  • Energy monitoring: Notebookcheck reported in March 2026 that energy usage monitoring is expected via the Tapo app.
  • Wiring: Notebookcheck described the listing as a single-pole dimmer switch; the sources do not state 3-way support.
  • Release status: TP-Link's page says Coming Soon and Notebookcheck reported no release date was announced.

Tapo S535D Buy or Skip

  • Buy if you want a single-pole Wi-Fi Matter dimmer with human presence detection that TP-Link says overcomes the limitations of standard PIR sensors, and you can wait for TP-Link's release.
  • Buy if you want automatic lighting that only turns on when it is dark and presence is detected, plus Siri, Alexa, or Google Assistant voice control.
  • Skip if you need a shipping product now or exact platform-specific reviews; the S535D is shown as Coming Soon and has no published hands-on product test.
  • Skip if you need 3-way or multi-location wiring; the available sources describe the listing as single-pole only.
