Tapo P110M transport and CSA certification

The Tapo P110M is a Matter over Wi-Fi smart plug with energy monitoring. It uses Bluetooth for setup and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for control, and MESH's November 2025 review lists Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Home Assistant, Homey Pro and Hubitat as supported. MatterAlpha's product page lists certificate CSA23204MAT40717-24 (firmware 1.0.0) certified March 16, 2023, and certificate CSA2510BMAT45149-24 (Matter 1.3, firmware 1.3.0) certified March 5, 2025.

According to MESH's November 2025 review and LinkdHome's December 2025 review, the P110M is a Matter over Wi-Fi plug that uses Bluetooth for initial discovery and Wi-Fi credential setup, then joins 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. It is not a Thread device and does not extend a Thread mesh, so it does not need a Thread border router. MESH's review lists "Uses Wi-Fi instead of Thread, so it can't extend your Thread network" as a reason to avoid if that is what you want. The CSA DCL model record names the device "Tapo Smart Plug, Energy Monitoring," part number P110M. MatterAlpha's P110M product page lists the March 5, 2025 certificate CSA2510BMAT45149-24 as Matter 1.3 with latest certified firmware 1.3.0, though its feature list still says energy monitoring 'is not supported by Matter yet, but coming soon.'

Tapo P110M platform matrix and product-specific notes

These are MatterCheck's type-level matrix answers for on/off plug-in units, not a lab test of this specific SKU. Product-specific behavior from the sources appears below the table.

Apple HomeYesYesYesYes
Google HomeYesYesYesYes
Amazon AlexaYesYesUnknownYes
SmartThingsYesYesYesYes
Home AssistantYesYesYesYes
HomeyYesYesYesYes
HubitatYesYesYesYes

Product reviews add detail to that type-level table. MESH's November 2025 review lists Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Home Assistant, Homey Pro and Hubitat as supported. Energy monitoring over Matter is not universal across those apps: MatterAlpha's June 2026 review says only Samsung SmartThings and Home Assistant support energy monitoring over Matter at the time of writing; MESH's November 2025 review found Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa provided basic on/off control without energy monitoring. In the type-level matrix, Amazon Alexa's "Starts automations" cell is Unknown.

Across the seven platforms in the type-level matrix, pairing and direct control are Yes for all; the only non-Yes cell is Amazon Alexa's automation trigger (Unknown). The P110M reviews show Matter energy reporting working in Home Assistant; MatterAlpha notes that SmartThings and Home Assistant were the only platforms supporting energy monitoring over Matter at the time of writing, while Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa reports focus on on/off behavior and basic settings.

Tapo P110M setup by platform and app behavior

Apple Home P110M setup and control

In MESH's November 2025 review, adding the P110M to Apple Home took a few minutes: open the Apple Home app on an iPhone or iPad, tap +, choose Add Accessory, scan the Matter QR code on the plug, then follow the on-screen instructions. MESH's Benjamin Lee says you can add the P110M without a home hub, but automations and remote control outside the home need an Apple TV HD or later, HomePod, or HomePod mini. Blacktubi's September 2024 review adds that iOS 18 is needed to add a Matter device without a Home Hub, and its general Matter-to-Apple-Home steps say to make sure the phone is on the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, reset the plug, and scan the Matter QR code. Apple Home gave on/off control and notification customization, but no energy monitoring.

Google Home P110M setup and hub list

Google Home requires a Matter-enabled hub paired in the Google Home app. MESH lists Google Home, Google Home Mini, Nest Mini, Nest Audio, Nest Hub 1st gen, Nest Hub 2nd gen, Nest Hub Max, Nest Wifi Pro, Google TV Streamer 4K, and LG TVs running webOS. In the Google Home app, open the Devices section, tap + Add, select Scan QR code, then scan the plug's code. Google Home provides only basic on/off control, without energy monitoring capability.

Amazon Alexa P110M Matter setup

MESH's Alexa hub list includes Echo Dot 5th, 4th, 3rd and 2nd gen; Echo Spot; Echo Dot with Clock 5th, 4th and 3rd gen; Echo 2nd gen and newer; Echo Pop; many Echo Show models; Echo Hub; Echo Studio; Echo Flex; Echo Plus 2nd gen; Echo Input; and eero Pro 6E, Pro 6, 6+, 6, PoE 6, PoE gateway and Max 7. In the Alexa app, tap +, select Add Device, then Other and Matter. The P110M exposes on/off control, and settings allow changing the device type to Light or Plug.

SmartThings, Home Assistant, Homey and Hubitat P110M notes

MESH's November 2025 review says it tested the plug across Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings and Home Assistant, and its spec table lists Homey Pro and Hubitat. In MatterAlpha's June 2026 review, James Bruce says only Samsung SmartThings and Home Assistant support energy monitoring over Matter at the time of writing. He reset the plug by holding the button for about ten seconds, paired it with Home Assistant, and confirmed entities for current power in watts, consumption in kWh, exported energy, effective current and effective voltage. LinkdHome's David Mead also paired initially in Home Assistant with no issues, but his unit needed firmware 1.3 or later for Matter energy monitoring; he first paired it with the Tapo app to update, then reset it and paired by Matter. LinkdHome's review notes that Matter does not work while the plug is paired with the Tapo app, and that the Tapo app phones home frequently.

Tapo P110M specs, energy monitoring and limits

  • Physical and electrical: MESH lists the Type G UK variant at 72.5 x 51.5 x 30.6 mm, 110 g, UL94-V0 flame-retardant PC, AC 220-240 V 50/60 Hz, maximum load 2990 W / 13 A, 1/6 HP motor maximum, 1.64 W relay-on power use, 0.64 W standby, and 0-40 C operating temperature. Trusted Reviews' May 2024 review gives 73 x 52 x 31 mm, and David Ludlow notes the side-mounted manual button can be harder to reach on one side of a double socket.
  • MatterAlpha spec sheet: 13 A, 230 V AC, 72 mm depth, 51 mm width, 60 mm height, 220 g, GTIN 4895252503975, MPN Tapo P110M, and UPC 810142821834.
  • Energy monitoring: MatterAlpha's P110M product page says the plug offers energy tracking to 0.001 kWh and lists Matter Electrical Energy Measurement and Electrical Power Measurement clusters. LinkdHome's David Mead describes a year of recorded data with hourly drill-down and day/month navigation, plus time-of-use energy pricing for cost estimates and export options; Blacktubi's review describes daily, monthly and yearly usage trends; Matter energy monitoring needs firmware 1.3 or later.
  • Tapo-only features: Blacktubi's September 2024 review describes Charge Guard, which shuts off power below a user-selected threshold after a device is fully charged, and a power-protection threshold that cuts power if exceeded. MatterAlpha's James Bruce says Charge Guard is beta, and in his use Power Protection did not react immediately at precise threshold numbers.
  • Limits: MESH and MatterAlpha both warn against EV charging and against appliances with a motor or compressor above 1/6 HP, such as an air conditioner. The P110M is indoor-only.
  • Pricing: MatterAlpha's June 2026 review says the P110M costs around $10, or $35 in a four pack. Trusted Reviews' May 2024 review lists a UK RRP of £16.90.

Tapo P110M verdict

  • Consider it if you want a compact Wi-Fi Matter smart plug with Tapo-app energy reports, Matter energy data in Home Assistant or SmartThings, and on/off control in Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa.
  • Consider it if you want local Matter control without a Tapo account after setup, and can update firmware in the Tapo app first when needed.
  • It is not a Thread device and does not extend a Thread network, and it adds another 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi device.
  • It is not rated for EV charging or for appliances with a motor/compressor above 1/6 HP, such as an air conditioner.
  • Note that Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa did not expose energy monitoring in the reviews; only on/off control was available there.
