The TCL D2L Smart Lock is a Matter over Thread smart lever lock with an in-handle fingerprint reader, plus PIN, card, voice, app, and physical key access. PR Newswire's January 6, 2026 CES release from TCL names Apple Home, Google Home, and Alexa as Matter ecosystems for this lock; the CSA certificate lists Matter 1.4 with Thread and Bluetooth. MatterCheck's type-level door lock matrix gives Yes for pairing on Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings, Home Assistant, Homey, and Hubitat, but the SKU record notes no product-specific platform behavior has been reviewed yet.

TCL D2L Smart Lock is a Matter 1.4 Thread lock

The CSA DCL model record names the product TCL D2L Smart Lock, part number 10000, vendor ID 4916, and product ID 35332. The CSA product page for certificate CSA2619BMAT51039-24 confirms the door lock device type, firmware version 1.0, hardware version 1.0, Matter Specification Version 1.4, and transport interfaces Thread plus Bluetooth. The certified date is March 2, 2026, and CSA shows TIS/TRP Tested: Yes.

TCL's global D2L page describes Matter over Thread and says local Thread functions can keep working if Wi-Fi goes offline. TCL also says the D2L has built-in Wi-Fi and connects directly to the home network for the TCL Home app with no additional hub, and the FCC-filed D2L manual adds that it works only with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (5 GHz is not supported). The CSA record lists Thread and Bluetooth as the transport interfaces, so Matter control still runs over Thread. MatterCheck's Matter Thread vs Wi-Fi guide explains the difference.

Because the D2L is a Thread device, the SKU record notes it needs a Thread border router and a Matter controller. MatterCheck's Matter hub and Thread border router guide explains which hubs can provide that required border router.

The product-specific source in this record is narrower than the matrix: TCL's CES release names only Apple Home, Google Home, and Alexa for the D2L, and TCL's Home Security page highlights Apple Home. No official D2L source or dated hands-on report in this record names SmartThings, Home Assistant, Homey, or Hubitat. Their table cells above remain the type-level matrix values. Use MatterCheck's compare tool to compare this door lock type with other Matter device types.

TCL D2L setup steps and physical installation

The FCC user manual for model D2L shows physical setup before app pairing. It covers a latch backset of 2 3/8 in (60 mm) or 2 3/4 in (70 mm), keeping the latch bevel toward the door jamb, and handle reversal for the exterior and interior assemblies. The exterior assembly contains the Type-C emergency power port, touch keypad, NFC recognition area, confirm button, doorbell, handle, fingerprint reader, loudspeaker, and indicator light. The manual says the indicator light shows green for success, red for failure, and flashing white while operating. The interior assembly contains AA batteries, battery cover, Setup Button, Privacy Mode Button, handle, and loudspeaker. The supplied manual excerpt does not show the step-by-step Matter pairing menus.

TCL's product pages put remote access, real-time notifications, access history, and digital guest keys in the TCL Home app. Pairing requires a Thread border router and a Matter controller because this is a Thread device. If the lock will not pair, use MatterCheck's Matter device not pairing guide. To add the lock to a second ecosystem, see MatterCheck's Matter multi-admin sharing guide.

TCL D2L specs, battery claims, and reported limits

  • Unlock methods: TCL lists fingerprint, PIN, app, voice control, card, and physical key. The fingerprint reader is in the handle, and the FCC manual shows an NFC recognition area.
  • Capacity: TCL says the D2L stores up to 100 fingerprints and 50 PIN codes.
  • Speed: TCL's CES release and Home Security page say Grip-to-Unlock fingerprint access takes 0.3 seconds.
  • Local processing: TCL says the D2L uses AI-driven local processing for fingerprints and stores 100% of fingerprint data locally on the device.
  • Battery: TCL's pages say the lock uses 8 AA batteries. TCL's global product page says up to 8 months of typical use; TCL's CES release and Home Security page say up to 12 months. TCL sources disagree on battery life.
  • Durability: TCL says BHMA Grade 3 certified, IP55 weather resistance, and operating range from -13 degrees F to 158 degrees F.
  • Features: TCL lists auto-lock, low-battery alerts, digital guest keys, a built-in doorbell, and remote control through the TCL Home app.

No independent reviewer content is included in this record. The manufacturer pages report the specs above, and the SKU record states product-specific platform behavior has not been tested or reviewed yet.

TCL D2L Smart Lock verdict

  • Buy if you want a Matter over Thread lever lock with grip-to-unlock fingerprint, a physical backup key, and TCL's stated IP55 and -13 degrees F to 158 degrees F operating range.
  • Buy if you already have or plan to run a Thread border router and Matter controller, and Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa is your main ecosystem.
  • Skip if you need product-specific Matter support beyond Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa. This record has no dated hands-on or official source for SmartThings, Home Assistant, Homey, or Hubitat.
  • Skip if you need one clear battery-life figure: TCL says 8 months on one page and 12 months in other materials.
  • Skip if you want to add it to a Matter controller without a Thread border router. Its built-in Wi-Fi serves the TCL Home app; the CSA-certified Matter transport is Thread plus Bluetooth.
