Which smart home platforms support Matter temperature and humidity sensors?
All five platforms MatterCheck tracks pair a Matter temperature and humidity sensor, show its readings in their app, and let a reading start an automation. Apple Home, Google Home, SmartThings and Home Assistant are rated High; Alexa is rated Med because Amazon hasn't said in writing that a third-party or Matter sensor can start a routine. A sensor can't be an automation action — it has nothing to switch.
Matter temperature and humidity sensor support at a glance
In the table, "Control" means the readings show in the platform's app. High confidence needs an official statement covering the feature plus a dated hands-on test of the device type on that platform; Med means the evidence is thinner or partly vendor-claimed. Matter has separate Temperature Sensor and Humidity Sensor device types, and most products expose both, so MatterCheck tracks them as one row.
| Platform | Pairs | Control (readings) | Starts an automation | Automation action | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Home | Yes | Yes | Yes | No | High |
| Google Home | Yes | Yes | Yes | No | High |
| Amazon Alexa | Yes | Yes | Yes | No | Med |
| SmartThings | Yes | Yes | Yes | No | High |
| Home Assistant | Yes | Yes | Yes | No | High |
Matter temperature and humidity sensors on Apple Home (HomeKit)
MatterCheck rates Apple Home High. Apple's Matter accessory support page lists temperature and humidity sensors among the supported Matter types, and the Home app's "A Sensor Detects Something" automation offers rises-above and drops-below thresholds. You need iOS 16.1 or later, and an Apple Home hub (HomePod or Apple TV) is recommended — required for remote access and full automations. Thread sensors also need a Thread border router.
Hands-on evidence is solid. A 2026-02-26 HomeKit UK review paired an IKEA TIMMERFLOTTE by Home app QR code in under two minutes, got separate temperature and humidity tiles with live readings, and set threshold triggers — though that unit's humidity read 5–7% high. A 2026-05-14 AppleInsider review used a TIMMERFLOTTE humidity rise to trigger a Matter dehumidifier, and Siri read the temperature aloud.
Matter temperature and humidity sensors on Google Home
MatterCheck rates Google Home High. Google's Matter supported-devices list includes Temperature Sensor and Humidity Sensor, and Google's consumer automation help names a temperature sensor starter and a humidity level starter. A Google/Nest Matter hub is required, plus a Thread border router for Thread sensors.
The dated hands-on test is a 2026-02-02 How-To Geek review of the IKEA TIMMERFLOTTE, which found Google Home could read temperature and humidity and set up automations from that information.
Matter temperature and humidity sensors on Alexa: can a reading start a routine?
Alexa pairs Matter temperature and humidity sensors and shows their readings — Amazon maps the Matter types to its TemperatureSensor and HumiditySensor interfaces. MatterCheck rates the trigger Yes but at Med confidence, because the official half is missing. A 2025-05-01 Matter Alpha review of the Aqara W100 in Matter mode with Alexa says sensor readings can be used as triggers, and vendor claims from Tapo's T150 table (June 2026) and Aqara's FP300 guide (2026-08-12) list temperature and humidity above/below Alexa Routine triggers. But Amazon's own "What Can You Do with Alexa Routines?" help names temperature routines only for the Echo's built-in sensor (Echo Dot 5th Gen or Echo Pop), and the Alexa+ page example "Turn on the fan when the temperature gets above 70 degrees" doesn't say a third-party sensor can be the starter. One aggregator still lists temperature and humidity on Alexa as control only, but that rests on research profiles rather than a hands-on test.
A 2026-02-14 T3 review paired an IKEA TIMMERFLOTTE directly to Alexa and viewed readings on an Echo Show 8, but didn't test routines. If you were searching for an Alexa temperature sensor routine, the officially documented route is an Echo with a built-in temperature sensor. For a Matter sensor, test your own routine before relying on it.
Matter temperature and humidity sensors on SmartThings
MatterCheck rates SmartThings High. The SmartThings Matter partners page lists Temperature Sensor and Humidity Sensor, and SmartThings' own documentation names humidity-based routines. A 2026-09-28 SmartThings IKEA FAQ names TIMMERFLOTTE humidity-based routines, and a 2026-04-20 SmartThings blog describes humidity routines that activate air conditioner dehumidification. IKEA sensors join the SmartThings hub directly — no IKEA DIRIGERA needed.
The dated hands-on test is a 2026-02-01 Techtest review that paired a TIMMERFLOTTE to an Aeotec SmartThings hub and read temperature, humidity and battery.
Matter temperature and humidity sensors in Home Assistant
MatterCheck rates Home Assistant High. Matter sensors appear as temperature and humidity sensor entities, and Home Assistant's sensor documentation includes device-class triggers such as "Temperature changed." You need the Home Assistant Matter Server (HA OS recommended), plus a Thread border router for Thread sensors. Eve Weather is Works with Home Assistant certified as of 2025-04-29.
A 2026-07-19 Teknik i Hemmet test added an IKEA TIMMERFLOTTE by QR code in the HA app and found its temperature and humidity entities matched an Aqara T1 placed alongside. Two caveats: a 2026-04-18 ChrisHansenTech review of the Aqara W200 found humidity updated too rarely for a dehumidifier automation, and a 2026 GitHub issue reports IKEA Thread sensors (TIMMERFLOTTE among them) timing out or missing events in HA, with fixes via firewall settings, the preferred Thread network and firmware. That's a reliability caveat, not a capability gap.
Can a temperature or humidity sensor turn on a heater, fan or dehumidifier?
Yes — the sensor starts the automation, and another device does the work. Every platform MatterCheck tracks can use a Matter thermostat, fan or air purifier, and plug as an automation action, so the deciding factor is the sensor's starter, which is Yes everywhere. Two dated examples: AppleInsider's 2026-05-14 review had a TIMMERFLOTTE humidity rise turn on a Matter dehumidifier in Apple Home, and SmartThings' 2026-04-20 blog describes humidity routines that switch an air conditioner to dehumidification. On Alexa the routine works per one review and vendor claims, but isn't officially documented. In Home Assistant, watch the caveat that some sensors report humidity too rarely for tight control.
Practical tip: a Matter smart plug can switch a simple heater, fan or dehumidifier that runs when it gets power, and a Matter thermostat can be adjusted directly. A fan or air purifier works the same way. See the thermostat type page for the full action matrix.
IKEA TIMMERFLOTTE on each platform
- Apple Home: HomeKit UK's 2026-02-26 test paired it by QR in under two minutes with separate temperature and humidity tiles and threshold triggers; AppleInsider's 2026-05-14 review used a humidity rise to trigger a Matter dehumidifier.
- Google Home: How-To Geek's 2026-02-02 test found Google Home read temperature and humidity and could set up automations from them.
- Alexa: T3's 2026-02-14 test paired it directly and showed readings on an Echo Show 8, but didn't test routines.
- SmartThings: Techtest's 2026-02-01 test paired it to an Aeotec SmartThings hub and read temperature, humidity and battery; SmartThings' 2026-09-28 FAQ names TIMMERFLOTTE humidity-based routines.
- Home Assistant: Teknik i Hemmet's 2026-07-19 test added it by QR and its readings matched an Aqara T1 alongside.
Thread or Wi-Fi: what you need
Every dedicated temperature and humidity sensor MatterCheck tracks is a Thread device (for the two not-yet-shipping Apple Home Collection models, that's what's announced), so you need a Thread border router plus the platform's Matter hub. The two Wi-Fi products that also report temperature — the SONOFF AirGuard monitor and the Intecular InvisOutlet Pro outlet — don't need a border router. In one line each: Apple Home recommends a HomePod or Apple TV home hub (required for remote access and full automations); Google Home needs a Google/Nest Matter hub; Alexa needs a Matter-enabled Echo or eero hub; SmartThings needs a compatible hub (standalone hub, Samsung TV, Station, etc.); Home Assistant needs its Matter Server (HA OS recommended). See the hubs page for the full picture.
Matter temperature and humidity sensors we track
- IKEA TIMMERFLOTTE temperature/humidity sensor — Thread, with an on-device LED readout when you press it.
- Aqara Climate Sensor W100 — Thread, with an LCD display and three physical buttons that also show up as Matter buttons; it can also bind to a Matter thermostat, which in some setups lets it drive the thermostat without going through the hub.
- Qingping Temp & RH Monitor T — Thread, with an always-on style e-ink display.
- Eve Weather — Thread, an outdoor IPX4 sensor. Its barometric pressure uses an Eve-only cluster, so platforms show temperature and humidity.
- arre Temperature Sensor — Thread. It also reports pressure over the standard Matter cluster; Home Assistant shows that as a kPa sensor, while Apple Home and Alexa may show only temperature and humidity.
- LG Temperature Sensor (Apple Home Collection) — Thread, announced but not shipping yet. Designed to pair with a thermostat in the Home app for multi-room comfort; rated Med because its Matter certificates aren't confirmed yet.
- Schneider Home Room Sensor (Apple Home Collection) — Thread, also announced but not shipping yet. Same Home-app thermostat pairing design; rated Med because its Matter certificates aren't confirmed yet.
Other tracked devices also report temperature and humidity as extra sensors: the Aqara FP300 presence sensor, the Inovelli White on/off switch (humidity sensor under the paddle), and IKEA ALPSTUGA and other air quality monitors. See the air quality sensor guide for those.
Which platform is best for a Matter temperature and humidity sensor?
Temperature and humidity sensors are one of the few Matter types that pair, show readings and start automations on all five platforms. Apple Home, Google Home, SmartThings and Home Assistant all have official starter support plus a dated hands-on test. Home Assistant turns each reading into its own sensor entity you can use in any automation, but watch the update-rate and reliability caveats above. On Alexa, Matter Alpha's 2025-05-01 review used the readings as routine triggers, but Amazon hasn't documented it, so test your own routine. Matter lets one sensor join more than one platform — see multi-admin — so you can, for example, view it on Alexa and run the automations from Home Assistant or Apple Home. For the broader platform picture, see the platform comparison guide.

How we checked
Values come from MatterCheck matrix v1.14; the temperature and humidity values were last checked 2026-10-17 (Alexa 2026-10-18). High confidence needs an official statement covering the feature plus a dated hands-on test of the device type on that platform; vendor claims and owner reports alone keep a value at Med. See the methodology, the temperature and humidity sensor type page, and the hubs page.
