SONOFF Smart Door/Window Sensor, part number SNZT-04P, is a CSA-certified Matter contact sensor that ships with Thread as its default radio and also supports Zigbee 3.0. It reports open/closed state over Matter over Thread, so it requires a Thread border router plus the Matter controller or hub for your ecosystem. MatterCheck's type-level matrix for contact sensors lists pairing, control, and automation-trigger support as Yes in Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings, Home Assistant, Homey, and Hubitat, and controlled-by-automations as No. The CSA certificate is CSA2646CMAT54820-24, certified 2026-08-07, with firmware v1.0.

MatterCheck has not lab-tested this device. Product specifics below come from the CSA-IOT product page, CSA DCL record, FCC filing, Dark Matter DB, MatterAlpha, and the SNZT-04P user guide.

SNZT-04P Matter transport and CSA certification

The SNZT-04P is Matter over Thread. CSA-IOT and the user guide both say it supports Thread and Zigbee 3.0, with Thread as the default. The user guide states that first power-up enters Thread pairing mode by default. Dark Matter DB's listing records the network as Thread with Bluetooth, and the CSA-IOT detail page lists the transport interface as Thread, Bluetooth. The CSA certificate is CSA2646CMAT54820-24, certified 2026-08-07, with firmware version v1.0 and hardware version v1.0. The Matter specification version is 1.5. CSA identifies the vendor as 0x1321, or 4897 decimal, and the product as 0x016B, or 363 decimal; the primary device type ID is 0x0015, a contact sensor.

Because this is a Thread device, MatterCheck's Thread vs Wi-Fi guide applies: it requires a Thread border router on the network. The user guide says a Thread-enabled Matter hub, or Thread border router, compatible with your Matter ecosystem is required. Dark Matter DB says CSA does not name a required hub, but lists typical Thread border routers for Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Home Assistant; MatterCheck covers the general hub options in its Thread border router guide. Bluetooth appears in the transport records, but the Matter connection itself is Thread.

MatterCheck type matrix for contact sensors

These are MatterCheck's type-level matrix answers for the contact_sensor device type, not a lab test of this exact SNZT-04P. Product-specific differences from the sources are noted below the table.

Apple HomeYesYesYesNo
Google HomeYesYesYesNo
Amazon AlexaYesYesYesNo
SmartThingsYesYesYesNo
Home AssistantYesYesYesNo
HomeyYesYesYesNo
HubitatYesYesYesNo

Dark Matter DB's SNZT-04P page names Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Home Assistant as apps where a CSA-certified Matter device of this type can be added, with Thread needing a border router first. MatterCheck's matrix keeps SmartThings, Homey, and Hubitat at Yes for pair, control, and starting automations, but no dated hands-on report for this specific product was present in the sources.

Cross-platform behavior for SONOFF SNZT-04P

According to MatterCheck's contact sensor matrix, all seven platforms should be able to pair, read the open/closed state, and let the sensor start automations. None of the seven can have the sensor controlled by automations: this device type reports state, not a commandable output. The user guide emphasizes that Matter mode uses any Matter-compatible app that can scan the Matter QR code, but platform-specific onboarding still depends on the app and a Thread border router. For support details by platform, see MatterCheck's Matter contact sensor support guide.

MatterCheck also catalogues different contact sensors such as Eve Door & Window and Aqara Door and Window P2 for comparison. If a pairing attempt fails, general starting points are in MatterCheck's Matter device not pairing guide: check the Thread border router, put the SNZT-04P into Thread pairing mode with the 5-second button press, and scan the Matter QR code. Those are general steps, not a product-specific test result.

SNZT-04P pairing, Zigbee mode, and install rules

Thread/Matter pairing

The user guide says on first power-up, the SNZT-04P enters Thread pairing mode by default and the LED slowly flashes green. Pairing exits after 10 minutes if not completed. To re-enter, press and hold the button for 5 seconds until the LED slowly flashes green. Open a Matter-compatible app and scan the Matter QR code on the Quick Guide or the device itself.

Zigbee 3.0 mode

The user guide says the SNZT-04P supports SONOFF hubs and other Zigbee 3.0 compatible hubs, with compatibility depending on the specific hub. To switch to Zigbee mode, press the button five times; the device enters Zigbee pairing mode and the LED slowly flashes red. To re-enter, press and hold the button for 5 seconds until the LED slowly flashes red. In the eWeLink app, add a SONOFF Zigbee gateway, then scan the QR code or add from the gateway's "Add" option if the QR page does not display.

Physical install

The manual instructs applying the included 3M adhesive to the designated area on the device. The magnet can be installed horizontally or vertically, aligning the installation marks on transmitter and magnet. For horizontal installation, keep the closed door/window gap under 30 mm; for vertical installation, keep it under 15 mm. Install the transmitter and magnet on the opening and closing parts separately, and the magnet can be removed for mounting where space is tight. Pressing the pairing button after install tests effective Zigbee distance; two LED flashes means effective communication distance.

SONOFF SNZT-04P verdict

  • Buy if you want a certified Matter 1.5 door/window sensor with Thread plus a Zigbee 3.0 fallback and can provide a Thread border router for Matter or a compatible Zigbee hub.
  • Buy if you can meet the install gap: under 30 mm horizontal or under 15 mm vertical when the door/window is closed.
  • Buy if you need open/closed state to start automations, such as turning on lights when a door opens.
  • Skip if you do not have a Thread border router and do not plan to use the Zigbee 3.0 route.
  • Skip if you need a device that automations can act on; the contact sensor matrix sets controlled-by-automations to No.
  • Skip if you require product-specific hands-on platform results. The sources provide CSA certification and type-level support, but no dated reviewer test of this exact SNZT-04P.
