The WiZ Color Strip, sold on WiZ's site as the 13ft Light Strip LED Strip, is a Matter-certified RGBW dimmable indoor light strip. It connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and does not need a hub or gateway. WiZ says it can be controlled through Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, or any other Matter-based smart home platform. MatterCheck's type-level matrix for dimmable color lights lists Yes for pairing, control, automation triggers, and automation actions on Apple Home, Google Home, SmartThings, Home Assistant, Homey, and Hubitat; Amazon Alexa is Partial for starting automations.

WiZ Color Strip transport and CSA certification

The model in the CSA DCL record has vendor ID 4107 and product ID 8894 under the product name "WiZ Color Strip"; the DCL device type maps to dimmable color light. MatterCheck's SKU record lists CSA certificate CSA2402CMAT42719-24 and a certification date of 2022-12-14. The DCL page points to wiz.guide/matter as its support URL. The shown DCL fields for userManualUrl and factoryResetStepsInstruction are empty.

Because this is a Wi-Fi Matter light strip, no Thread border router is involved. MatterCheck's Wi-Fi versus Thread guide explains how Wi-Fi Matter accessories differ from Thread ones. See also MatterCheck's WiZ Matter device guide for brand-level rollout details. WiZ's FAQ says only lights and smart plugs produced after Q2 2021 support Matter, while WiZ accessories like WiZmote, Smart Button, and Motion Sensor do not.

WiZ Color Strip platform support matrix

These are MatterCheck's type-level answers for dimmable color light, not a product-specific lab test. Product notes appear below the table.

WiZ's official 13ft page says the strip can be controlled through Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple Home or any other Matter platform, and its third-party compatibility list names Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Homey, Siri Shortcuts, IFTTT and Enki. It does not name Home Assistant or Hubitat by name. TechRadar's June 2023 review has an editor's note dated 06/07/23 saying Apple HomeKit control became available in the new WiZ app v2 after the Matter rollout.

WiZ Color Strip cross-platform comparison

At the type level, Apple Home, Google Home, SmartThings, Home Assistant, Homey, and Hubitat all show Yes for pairing, control, starting automations, and being controlled by automations. Amazon Alexa has the only reduced cell: Yes for pairing and control, but Partial for starting automations. WiZ's FAQ adds that Google, Alexa, and SmartThings support both Matter and WiZ's existing integration. Matter allows sharing the same strip across more than one controller; MatterCheck has a multi-admin explainer.

WiZ app Matter setup steps

WiZ's Matter help section gives these paths for Matter setup:

  • Open Settings, tap Integration under the current home.
  • Tap Matter in the integration list.
  • To check whether devices in the home are Matter-updatable, go to Settings and tap Integration.
  • For Apple Home, WiZ says to make sure the phone is on the compatible OS version, iOS 16.1, and that the hub is Matter-supported.

For non-Matter pairing, TechRadar notes the WiZ app's off-three-times instruction is confusing because it is not clear whether it refers to the mains switch rather than the strip's inline controls. If a Matter pairing does not finish, use MatterCheck's device pairing troubleshooting guide.

Resetting or refreshing a WiZ Color Strip

The DCL record shown does not include a product-specific factory reset instruction. WiZ's FAQ describes a refresh method for a light: go to the room page and long-press the device to refresh it back to out-of-box state.

WiZ Color Strip specs, price and reviewer notes

  • Official 13ft specs: RGBW color, tunable white 2700-5000 K, 840 total lumens, IP20, 12.7 W bulb included, 100-120 V, CRI ≥80, 15,000-hour nominal life, 50,000 switch cycles, and 2-year warranty.
  • Connectivity: WiZ's product page lists Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi under communication protocol, with no hub or gateway required. TechRadar's review says the strip requires 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and cannot connect through a Hue Bridge or Bluetooth.
  • Installation: The 13ft strip is flexible and adhesive-backed. TechRadar says it can be cut every 10 inches / 25 cm, extensions are available, and it cannot turn corners without third-party 6-pin pieces.
  • WiZ app: TechRadar counts 33 presets plus scenes, rhythms, and schedules. Tech360 adds that WiZ has vacation mode and circadian rhythm, but lacks geofencing and sunrise/sunset scheduling.
  • Price and availability: WiZ's product page says $32.99 with "Item no longer available". TechRadar's June 2023 review priced the 13ft / 4 m kit at $34.99 / £29.99 from WiZ store US, Argos UK, or Amazon.
  • Color quality: TechRadar found vibrant color overall, not as bright as some strips, and some red tones a little washed out. Tech360 also found red less vibrant than Philips Hue.
  • Compatibility update: TechRadar's original review listed "Not Apple HomeKit compatible" as a reason to avoid, but the same page's editor's note says Apple HomeKit control is available through Matter with WiZ app v2.

WiZ Color Strip buy-if and skip-if

  • Buy if you want a budget Wi-Fi RGBW light strip with Matter certification and no hub; official listings include full color, tunable white, scenes, and scheduling.
  • Buy if you use Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, Homey, or another Matter controller; the type matrix also lists Home Assistant and Hubitat.
  • Skip if you want the deeper app controls of Philips Hue, including geofencing or sunrise/sunset routines; Tech360 and TechRadar report fewer features.
  • Skip if accurate red saturation matters to you; reviewers found red tones slightly weak.
