WiZ and Matter: which WiZ lights work with Matter, how to set them up, and where the setup code is
Yes: WiZ says Google Home, Apple Home or any other Matter-capable platform can control WiZ lights, and WiZ lights connect over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi rather than Thread. You start Matter setup in the WiZ app, which shows the QR code and numeric code, then add the light in your platform's app within 15 minutes. You'll also need a Matter hub or controller for that platform.
WiZ's Matter articles were written for its first Matter release and show no dates, so check the WiZ app for the current flow. Where an article says "currently" or "super new," that's the article's wording at the time it was written, not a claim about today's state.
Which WiZ lights work with Matter
WiZ's "Matter in a nutshell" article says a device becomes a Matter device when it gains the Matter certificate from the Connectivity Standards Alliance. For in-field devices, WiZ says they "can be OTAed with Matter credentials via the WiZ v2 app." For newly manufactured devices, WiZ says they ship "out-of-box Matter capable devices with the Matter badge on the packaging and a setup code (QR code and numeric code) inside."
WiZ's Matter setup tips article says WiZ supports Matter from firmware 1.29.0. The article tells you to make sure your device has the most up-to-date firmware before trying Matter. WiZ product pages say the product is "Matter-certified" (the US outdoor strip page writes "Matter certified") and list Matter functionality via third-party hubs (Wi-Fi) in their specifications. For example, the Tunable white smart bulb A60 E27, the Outdoor LED strip 16.4ft, and the Portrait desk lamp all say this.
MatterCheck tracks 57 WiZ products out of 391 products in its database: 23 colour-temperature lights, 33 colour lights, and 1 smart plug. Example tracked models include WiZ A19, WiZ A60.E26, WiZ BR30, WiZ GU10, WiZ Downlight, WiZ Linear, WiZ Color Strip, and WiZ Multi-color Neon Flex Strip. See the tracked products list for the full tracked set, and check how to check CSA certification if you want to verify a specific product.
Wi-Fi, not Thread: what you need
WiZ devices operate on 2.4GHz b/g/n Wi-Fi with WPA-2 and WPA-3 Personal security, according to WiZ's "Adding WiZ lights in your home" article. The article also recommends turning on Bluetooth on your phone because it "greatly simplifies the pairing of all WiZ lights produced since 2019." WiZ product pages list "Bluetooth" and "WiFi (2.4GHz)" as communication protocols. MatterCheck's tracked WiZ products are all Wi-Fi; none are Thread devices. See Thread vs Wi-Fi for how that affects setup.
WiZ's Matter setup tips article says your WiZ device "MUST be in the same network with your Matter hub and the corresponding app, otherwise, the setup would fail." You also need a Matter controller for your platform. Apple's Pair and manage your Matter accessories page describes adding Matter accessories to the Home app. Google's Prepare your smart home for Matter page says you need a Matter-enabled hub device and that IPv6 must be enabled on your network. Amazon's Set Up Amazon Matter Smart Home Devices with Alexa page says to install your Matter device within 30 ft (9 m) of a compatible Alexa hub. SmartThings' Matter Integration page explains that a Matter controller is the hub responsible for controlling the device after onboarding. See hubs and Thread border routers for more on what each platform needs.
How to add a WiZ light to a Matter platform
WiZ's "How to install my Matter-ready device to Matter hub?" article gives the WiZ-side steps. Follow them in this order, then switch to your platform's app:
- Go to Settings, then tap Integration under the current home section.
- Tap Matter in the integration list.
- Select the device you want to set up within your preferred Matter platform, such as Apple.
- Scroll down and tap "start setup." The WiZ app triggers the device into Matter setup mode, and you should see a blink on the device.
- Open your preferred Matter home app and follow its setup flow. The app will ask you to scan the QR code or input the numeric code; both are on the same page in the WiZ app.
- The Matter setup mode stays active for 15 minutes.
For the platform side, see how to add a Matter device for the general flow.
Apple Home
WiZ's "How to setup my WiZ light in Apple Home?" article says to make sure your phone runs iOS 16.1 and your hub is Matter-supported, such as a HomePod mini or Apple TV. After triggering setup mode in the WiZ app, open Apple Home, tap "+" to add a new accessory, and scan the QR code or enter the numeric code. If you're using the same iPhone for both apps, tap "More options" to see devices discovered by Apple Home and paste the numeric code. Apple's own Matter accessories page has its own requirements, including that with iOS 18 or later you can add Matter accessories without a home hub. See Apple Home Matter support for the platform details.
Google Home, Alexa and SmartThings
Google's Matter page says you need a Matter-enabled hub device on your home wireless network before adding Matter devices, and that IPv6 must be enabled. Amazon's Alexa Matter page walks through opening the Alexa app, going to Devices, selecting the plus, choosing Add Device, tapping the Matter icon, and scanning the QR code or entering the pairing code. SmartThings' Matter page says the SmartThings app acts as the Matter commissioner during onboarding, and you scan the QR code or enter the setup code, then select a hub and room. See Google Home Matter support, Alexa Matter support, and SmartThings Matter support for each platform's requirements.
The WiZ Matter setup code
WiZ's install article says the QR code and numeric code are both shown in the WiZ app on the same page where you trigger Matter setup mode. For devices without the Matter logo on the packaging, the Matter setup tips article says you download the Matter certificate and setup code through the WiZ v2 app, and that "the setup code is unique to each device." New devices with the Matter badge have a setup code inside the packaging, according to the nutshell article.
There's one model-specific exception. WiZ's "Linear pairing issue" article covers model ID 127420 and says that after updating the device through Settings > Integrations > Matter, "the new QR code and 11-digit code on app would be different from the ones in your packaging. Please use the codes on app." If you've lost or reset a device, see what to do with a lost setup code.
Matter or WiZ's own Alexa, Google Home and SmartThings links
WiZ has its own account-link integrations for Alexa, Google Home, and SmartThings, and these are separate from Matter. WiZ's Alexa article says rooms and groups created in the WiZ app "only accept on, off and dimming commands" through the Alexa skill, and to control colors and whites of rooms and groups you'd need to recreate them as Alexa groups. WiZ's Google Home article describes an "App Flip" flow where you link your WiZ account in the Google Home app, and notes the Google integration can only be activated for one WiZ home at once. WiZ's SmartThings article says the integration code is valid for 5 minutes and that one SmartThings account can only be linked to a single WiZ home. A December 2023 interface update article says multiple home owners can each create an integration with the same partner, so you and a partner could each link the same WiZ home to your own Google Home.
WiZ's FAQ on using Matter alongside existing integrations says Google, Alexa, and SmartThings all support both. But it describes an edge case: if you've already integrated your home with one of those platforms and then add the same device again via Matter, "you might see a new device appears in the home. It is the duplication of the existing device in your home." WiZ says this won't influence function but "indeed not ideal as user experience," and that WiZ is working with partners on it. See sharing one device with several apps for how Matter multi-admin works.
Over Matter, WiZ's nutshell article lists the supported controls as On/Off, brightness, temperature, color, and grouping. It says advanced features like dynamic light modes, customizable light scenes, and dual-zone light control stay in the WiZ app. The Sports Live article says Sports Live is only available within the WiZ V2 app and is not supported on Alexa, Matter, or Apple HomeKit.
WiZ and Home Assistant
Home Assistant has a dedicated WiZ integration that is local and uses Wi-Fi, not Matter. The Home Assistant WiZ integration docs say WiZ devices are set up through your Wi-Fi network with no additional bridge or gateway, and that Home Assistant can auto-discover them. You need "Allow local communication" enabled in the WiZ app, which the docs say should be on by default. The integration supports occupancy sensors linked to a device and power monitoring sensors on specific hardware modules, and it says these devices have been sold under at least these brands, among them 4Lite, AEG, Ansell, Liteline, Lutec, Philips Smart LED lights with WiZ Connected, and others.
Home Assistant's Matter integration is a separate route. It uses the Home Assistant Companion app for commissioning over Bluetooth, then the device communicates over Wi-Fi or Thread. The docs say you can add a device directly to Home Assistant's fabric or share it from another controller like Google or Apple. See Home Assistant Matter support and local control without internet for more.
What MatterCheck's data says for WiZ's device types
MatterCheck checks 27 Matter device types on 7 platforms. The table below shows results per device type and platform, not tests of WiZ products.

Each entry: pairs / usable as an automation trigger (confidence), per Matter device type in MatterCheck's data — not a test of WiZ products.
Each tracked WiZ product sits under one of the Matter device types in the table: colour-temperature light (23 WiZ products), colour light (33) and smart plug (1). Apple Home, Google Home, SmartThings and Home Assistant show Yes for pairing and for use as an automation trigger on all three types. Alexa shows Yes for pairing, with Partial or Unknown for automation triggers; Homey shows Yes with Med confidence; and Hubitat shows Unknown for the two light types and Yes for the plug type. The confidence label is how sure MatterCheck is about each result, not how well WiZ products perform. See the MatterCheck platform matrix, the platform comparison, light bulb support and smart plug support for the full picture.
When a WiZ light won't pair or goes offline
- Make sure the device has the most up-to-date firmware. WiZ supports Matter from 1.29.0, per the setup tips article.
- Check that the WiZ device is on the same network as your Matter hub and the app you're pairing with. WiZ says setup fails otherwise.
- Confirm the light is on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. WiZ devices only operate on 2.4GHz b/g/n.
- Turn on Bluetooth on your phone. WiZ recommends it for pairing lights produced since 2019.
- Remember the 15-minute setup window. If it expires, trigger setup again from the WiZ app under Settings > Integration > Matter.
- If you power-cycled the device, it might take some time to reconnect to the Matter hub. WiZ suggests soft-off instead of a hard power cut.
- If you changed your router, use the same SSID and password and lights should reconnect automatically. With a new SSID or password, you'll need to re-pair the lights, per WiZ's router article.
- To refresh a light, delete the device in the WiZ app and re-add it to get a new Matter setup code, per WiZ's "How to refresh my light?" article.
- For the Linear model ID 127420, update it through Settings > Integrations > Matter and use the codes shown in the app, not the packaging.
