SwitchBot and Matter: which SwitchBot hubs are Matter bridges, what they bridge, and how to add SwitchBot to your smart home app

Yes — SwitchBot works with Matter. Per SwitchBot's Matter compatibility article, SwitchBot products reach Matter in two ways: Matter over Bridge, where SwitchBot Bluetooth devices and IR remotes go through a SwitchBot Matter bridge such as the Hub Mini Matter Enabled, Hub 2, Hub 3, or AI Hub, and Matter over Wi-Fi, where some devices such as the Air Purifier connect on their own. You still need a platform home hub such as a HomePod, Apple TV, or Nest Hub. The bridges carry a limited number of sub-devices — 4, 8, or 30 depending on the hub.

Each answer names its source, and the sections below give the details, including the pairing-code paths, sub-device limits, and platform-specific steps.

Two ways SwitchBot devices reach a Matter app

SwitchBot's Matter compatibility article (last edited 2026-08-14) says SwitchBot products connect to Matter through two methods: "Matter over Wi-Fi" and "Matter over Bridge." It lists the controllers you'd use with each ecosystem: "Apple Home App / HomePod Mini speaker," "Alexa App / Echo speaker," "Google Home App / Google Nest Hub speaker," and "SmartThings App / Samsung SmartThings hub."

Matter over Bridge: through a SwitchBot hub

The compatibility article defines a Matter bridge as a CSA-certified intermediary device that acts as a "protocol translator." It "enables non-Matter SwitchBot devices (e.g., those using Bluetooth or proprietary protocols) to join the Matter ecosystem by converting their signals into Matter-compatible communication." In practice, that means SwitchBot Bluetooth devices and the infrared appliances on the compatibility article's list join a Matter app by passing through a SwitchBot bridge. SwitchBot's IR remote article adds that remotes learned in "Others" mode can't be linked with Alexa or Google Home, though a Matter-capable hub can sync them to Apple Home as a sub-device. The article also says that when the Matter specification is updated, there's no need to upgrade the accessory's firmware, because "updating the bridge device's firmware will enable support for new features." For more on how bridges work across brands, see our guide to Matter bridges.

One wrinkle worth noting: SwitchBot's Matter page says "Currently IR appliances can only support Matter via Hub 2, Hub Mini Matter Enabled." But the same page's Hub 3 row lists "Supports Infrared-Controlled Appliances" as current functionality. Both statements are SwitchBot's own; the page doesn't reconcile them, so we report both as written.

Matter over Wi-Fi: devices that connect on their own

The compatibility article's "Matter over Wi-Fi" list includes the S10, K10+ Pro Combo, Floor Cleaning Robot S20, Multitasking Household Robot K20+ Pro, Robot Vacuum K11+, Air Purifier, Air Purifier Table, Floor Lamp, RGBICWW Floor Lamp, LED Strip Light 3, RGBICWW Strip Light, RGBIC Neon Rope Light, Candle Warmer Lamp, and "SwitchBot Lock Pro Matter Enabled." SwitchBot's Matter page puts it plainly: "SwitchBot S10, K10+ Pro Combo, Air Purifier, and other Wi-Fi products support Matter natively without needing a Hub." Home Assistant's SwitchBot Matter page has its own standalone list: the Air Purifier, Air Purifier Table, and Multitasking Robot K20+ Pro "Doesn't require a Switchbot Matter Hub," plus the Multitasking Robot K11+ listed as Matter over Wi-Fi under "Other supported devices." For the difference between Wi-Fi and Thread Matter devices, see our Thread vs Wi-Fi guide.

No Thread, no Zigbee, and no Matter controller role in these sources

SwitchBot's Help Center article on Zigbee compatibility for the Hub Mini, Hub 2, Hub 3, Hub Mini Matter Enabled, Hub Plus and Ceiling Light Pro says "SwitchBot devices currently only support Wi-Fi, BLE, Wi-Fi + BLE, NFC, or NFC + BLE protocols. Some devices support Matter." The Hub 3 store page lists connectivity as "802.11b/g/n, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy." The CSA listing for Hub 3 shows "Transport Interface Wi-Fi, Bluetooth" and a primary device type ID of 0x000E. No source here says any SwitchBot hub is a Thread border router or uses Thread, and no source calls a SwitchBot hub a Matter controller — SwitchBot's own pages describe the hubs as Matter bridges. For how hubs and Thread border routers differ, see our hubs and Thread border routers guide, and for how Matter compares with Zigbee and Z-Wave, see Matter vs Zigbee and Z-Wave.

The Hub 3 store page's product description mentions "third-party Matter devices like Hue and IKEA lights," and its specifications say it "Controls Matter-enabled third-party devices (e.g., Hue, IKEA, etc.)." Those are SwitchBot's marketing lines, quoted here as written. SwitchBot's Matter page FAQ gives a different answer for Hub 2 and Hub Mini Matter Enabled: when asked whether products from other smart home companies can support Matter through those hubs, it says "Unforunately not. This will be applicable to SwitchBot devices only." No source in this set explains how the Hub 3 would control third-party Matter devices, so we don't either.

Which SwitchBot devices are Matter bridges

SwitchBot's compatibility article and Matter page list several products that act as Matter bridges, each with its own sub-device capacity.

SwitchBot's Help Center article "Differences Between Hub Mini, Hub 2, Hub Mini Matter Enabled and Hub 3" (last edited 2026-02-11) compares the four hubs. The older Hub Mini has no Matter function. Hub 2 and Hub 3 both have Matter, a temperature and humidity sensor, and a light sensor; Hub Mini Matter Enabled has Matter but no built-in temperature and humidity sensor — the article notes it "supports temperature and humidity when using the dedicated charging cord with a built-in sensor," which you request through SwitchBot support. Sub-device capacity is 8 for Hub 2, 4 for Hub Mini Matter Enabled, and 30 for Hub 3. The Hub 2 store page says in its own words: "SwitchBot Lock, Curtains and Blind Tilts are supported via Matter when using SwitchBot Hub 2, which in turn helps make your device supported via HomeKit." The Hub Mini Matter Enabled store page says it "Allows diverse smart home devices, including IR appliances and SwitchBot Bluetooth devices, to work within Apple Home via Matter."

Beyond the hubs, SwitchBot's Matter page lists the Relay Switch 1, Relay Switch 1PM, Relay Switch 2PM, Plug Mini (EU), and Garage Door Opener as Matter bridges with a capacity of 2 sub-devices each. The Plug Mini (EU) article says "up to two sub-devices (including the Plug Mini EU itself)." The Video Doorbell is listed as a "Security Gateway for SwitchBot Lock Series" with a capacity of 1. The AI Hub has a capacity of 30, and SwitchBot's AI Hub Home Assistant article says "Home Assistant on AI Hub does not support Matter integration. However, AI Hub itself can act as a Matter Bridge to bridge other SwitchBot devices into the Matter ecosystem."

Which SwitchBot devices work through a bridge, and what they can do

The compatibility article's Matter over Bridge list covers home automation (Bot, Curtain, Curtain 3, Blind Tilt, Roller Shade, Universal Remote, Home Climate Panel, Smart Radiator Thermostat), robot vacuums (S1, S1 Plus, K10+, S10, S20, K10+ Pro, K10+ Pro Combo, K11+, K20+ Pro), locks (Lock Lite, Lock, Lock Pro, Lock Ultra), lighting (Ceiling Light, Ceiling Light Pro, Color Bulb, LED Strip Light, LED Strip Light 2), plugs (Plug Mini JP and US variants), sensors (Meter, Meter Plus, Outdoor Meter, Meter Pro, Meter Pro CO2 Monitor, "SwitchBot Water Leak Detector (Hub 3 Only)," Motion Sensor, Contact Sensor, Presence Sensor), household devices (Evaporative Humidifier, Battery Circulator Fan, Air Purifier, Air Purifier Table, Standing Circulator Fan, Circulator Fan), and IR appliances such as air conditioners, fans, lights, TVs, and projectors. That list is the compatibility article's own.

SwitchBot's Matter page gives the functions each type exposes: Curtain and Curtain 3 fully open and fully close, Blind Tilt and Roller Shade turn all on or off and adjust level up or down, locks lock and unlock, robot vacuums start cleaning when turned on and finish cleaning when turned off, and the bridged lighting is on/off only. The Apple sub-device article "Which SwitchBot Devices Can Be Added to Apple Home As Sub-devices via Matter?" (last edited 2026-08-14) adds Apple-specific detail: Curtain can fully open, fully close or open to a set percentage, Motion Sensor does "motion detected/motion not detected," Contact Sensor does "door is open/door is closed," and Water Leak Detector does "Leak detected/No leak detected" with Hub 3. Its Apple-only notes include: robot vacuums "appears as a switch, on = clean, off = recharge"; "CO2 readings are not supported on the Apple Home App"; Bot "currently only supports switch mode"; IR remotes learned with "Others" can only turn remotes on and off; and a Universal Remote "occupies the slots of two sub-devices." Some devices only appear under Lab Feature (Beta) in the compatibility article's secondary list, including Color Bulb, LED Strip Light, Ceiling Light, Ceiling Light Pro, S1 Plus, Battery Circulator Fan, and several others. For more on blinds and shades over Matter, see our blinds and shades guide.

On locks specifically: SwitchBot's "Does SwitchBot Lock Pro Support Matter?" article says "Lock Pro does not directly support Matter but can be used as a secondary device via our Hub 2 to sync to the Apple Home App or Google Home." The compatibility article lists "SwitchBot Lock Pro Matter Enabled" under Matter over Wi-Fi, and the Lock Pro Matter Enabled iOS guide has its own setup path with an iOS 18.4 or later home hub requirement. Lock Ultra works through a bridge. See our smart locks guide for the broader picture.

How to get the SwitchBot Matter pairing code

For a SwitchBot hub (Hub 2, Hub 3, or Hub Mini Matter Enabled)

  1. Make sure the SwitchBot app and the hub's firmware are up to date.
  2. Make sure your phone, the platform home hub (HomePod, Apple TV, or Nest Hub), and the SwitchBot hub are all on the same 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
  3. Copy the code from the SwitchBot app: on Hub 2 or Hub 3, go to your hub, tap the gear icon, then Matter Setup (Beta); on Hub Mini Matter Enabled, open its device page, tap the Settings icon, then Matter settings. Or use the QR code on the hub — the side or back for Hub 2, the back for Hub 3 and Hub Mini Matter Enabled.
  4. Reset the hub before adding it: press and hold the On and Off buttons on Hub 2 or Hub 3 for 15 seconds, or press and hold the button on Hub Mini Matter Enabled for 15 seconds.
  5. Add the hub in your platform app using that app's Matter path (details in the next section).
  6. The hub is added as a gateway, and on Hub 2 and Hub 3 its temperature and humidity sensor is added too.

These steps come from the Hub 2 iOS, Hub 2 Android, Hub 3 iOS, Hub 3 Android, and Hub Mini Matter Enabled iOS setup guides.

For a Matter over Wi-Fi device

  1. Make sure the device is added to the SwitchBot app and its firmware is up to date.
  2. Open the device's page in the SwitchBot app and tap Connect Device or Matter Setup, depending on the device.
  3. Copy the pairing code from the app, or scan the QR code on the device.
  4. Add it in your platform app using that app's Matter path.

These steps come from SwitchBot's Matter over Wi-Fi article and the Lock Pro Matter Enabled iOS guide.

Adding SwitchBot devices as sub-devices

Once the bridge is in your platform app, you add SwitchBot devices as sub-devices from the SwitchBot app, not the platform app. The path is: your hub's gear icon > Matter Setup (Beta) > Add secondary devices, or Secondary Devices > Add. Synchronization can take time depending on your network. The Hub Mini articles note "Only the homeowner can set matter, neither the administrator nor any other member has the authority to do so." The Apple sub-device article says Hub 2's own temperature and humidity count toward its 8 sub-device total, but with firmware 2.0-1.2 you can remove them and sync eight other devices instead. SwitchBot's Matter page gives a grouping example: if you group Blind Tilt devices in the SwitchBot app, each group uses only one sub-device placement. For the general process of adding Matter devices, see our how to add a device guide, and for sharing one device across apps, see multi-admin sharing. If you've lost a code, see lost setup code.

Using SwitchBot with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings and Home Assistant

SwitchBot's Help Center has per-hub setup guides for iOS (Apple Home) and Android (Google Home), and the bridge, Matter over Bridge, and Matter over Wi-Fi articles add Apple Home, Google Home, and SmartThings sections. Here's what each platform's path looks like in these sources.

Apple Home

The Hub 2 and Hub 3 iOS guides require a HomePod or Apple TV, with "Any home hub compatible with iOS 16.1 or later" acceptable. The Apple path is: open the Home app, tap Add or scan Accessory, tap More options, tap My Accessory isn't shown here, tap Enter Code, then paste the code. The Hub 3 guide adds that "You can use the buttons of your Hub 3 to trigger automations in Apple Home." Apple's own Matter accessories article (published 2026-05-07) says the Home app "currently supports these types of Matter accessories: air conditioners, bridges, lights, locks, outlets, switches, thermostats, blinds and shades, and sensors (motion, ambient light, contact, temperature, and humidity)." See our Apple Home and Matter guide for more.

Google Home

The Android guides require Android OS 12 or newer, Google Nest 47.9.4 or newer, and Google Home 2.65.1.6 or newer. The Hub 2 and Hub 3 Android guides give the Google path as: open the Google Home app, tap Add under the Device menu, tap Matter-enabled device, then tap "No QR code" and paste the code. The Hub Mini Matter Enabled Android guide goes through the Google Home Settings page instead: Set up device, New device, then Set up without QR code. SwitchBot's bridge article points to Google's hub page, which says you need "a Matter-enabled hub device set up on your home wireless network" and lists hubs such as the Nest Hub (2nd gen) and Nest Hub Max. Note that SwitchBot's separate Google Home Setup Guide describes a different route: "Works with Google" cloud account linking with "SwitchBot Smart," which is not Matter. See our Google Home and Matter guide for more.

Alexa

The compatibility article lists "Alexa App / Echo speaker" among Matter controllers. But SwitchBot's Alexa Setup Guide describes the SwitchBot Smart skill — account linking, not Matter. Amazon's own Alexa Matter setup page gives the general steps: open the Alexa app, go to Devices, tap the plus, select Add Device, choose the matter icon, confirm, then scan the QR code or enter the pairing code. There's no SwitchBot step-by-step for adding a SwitchBot Matter bridge to Alexa through Matter in these sources — we say so plainly. The Universal Remote article says "Alexa and Google are not supported at this time" for its Matter use, and the IR article says remotes learned with "Others" don't appear in Alexa or Google Home. See our Alexa and Matter guide for more.

SmartThings

SwitchBot's bridge article requires a "Samsung Hub/gateway (supporting Matter/Thread) online." The path is: open the SmartThings app, tap the plus, select Add device, choose Partner devices, then Matter, then scan or enter the setup code. The Matter over Bridge article's SmartThings steps say to open the hub's Matter Setup page in the SwitchBot app and tap Secondary Devices > Add. SmartThings' own Matter integration page describes the commissioner, controller, and device roles. See our SmartThings and Matter guide for more.

Home Assistant

Home Assistant's SwitchBot Matter page says SwitchBot Matter devices "are certified for use via one of their Matter hubs: either the SwitchBot Hub 2 or the Hub 3," with some "certified via Matter over Wi-Fi as standalone devices." It says the brand "was introduced in Home Assistant 2025.6" and its IoT class is "Local Push." SwitchBot's Home Assistant page has a Matter Integration table listing the bridges as "Aggregator" and mapping bridged devices to Matter types — for example, Bot, Color Bulb, LED Strip Light, and plugs appear as "Switch" over the bridge. The AI Hub article says Home Assistant on the AI Hub doesn't support the Matter integration, but the AI Hub itself can act as a Matter bridge. SwitchBot's Bluetooth and cloud Home Assistant routes are separate and not covered here. See our Home Assistant and Matter guide for more.

What MatterCheck's data says for SwitchBot's device types

MatterCheck's data covers 24 Matter device types on five platforms, and MatterCheck tracks 3 SwitchBot products among its 106 tracked products: Air Purifier (Matter), Battery Circulator Fan 2 Pro, and Robot Vacuum K11+ Pro — all Wi-Fi Matter devices. The platform results below are per Matter device type, not tests of SwitchBot products or bridges.

MatterCheck's data covers eight Matter device types that SwitchBot's own pages map SwitchBot products to. Every one of the eight types pairs on every platform except leak sensors on Alexa, which pair only partly (Med confidence) with control N. Alexa's results for temperature / humidity, blinds, locks, fans / purifiers, and robot vacuums are Med confidence. Google Home's door-lock control is Partial (High confidence). Apple Home can't use a robot vacuum as an automation trigger (N, Med). A bridged SwitchBot device may appear as a different type in practice — SwitchBot's Home Assistant page lists the Bot, Color Bulb, LED Strip Light, and plugs as "Switch" over the bridge, and SwitchBot's Apple article says robot vacuums appear as a switch in Apple Home. See the full five-platform comparison and the tracked products list. For type-specific detail, see our guides on contact sensors, motion sensors, temperature / humidity sensors, leak sensors, robot vacuums, and fans and air purifiers.

If SwitchBot won't pair over Matter or sub-devices are missing

These checks come from SwitchBot's Help Center articles and its Matter page, and we report them as written without adding causes of our own.

For the general cases, see our guides on a device that won't pair, a device that's offline, and network setup.

SwitchBot hub firmware, Matter versions and the CSA listing

The CSA listing for the SwitchBot Hub 3 shows firmware version 1.0, certified date 03/13/2025, specification version 1.3, transport interface Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, primary device type ID 0x000E, and product type End Product. That's the certification record, not a statement about what firmware the hub runs today. No source here states the Matter version a hub currently runs — a listing's specification version is what was certified at that date. The compatibility article says bridge firmware updates add features for bridged accessories, and SwitchBot's downgrade article says hubs can't be downgraded after an upgrade: "firmware downgrade is not supported."

Firmware versions appear in specific articles as written: the Apple sub-device article names firmware 2.0-1.2 for several changes, and the Relay Switch article names Curtain V4.6, Lock V5.8, and Bot V6.4. For checking certifications, see our CSA certification guide, and for updates, see firmware updates.

Frequently asked questions

Does SwitchBot work with Matter?

Yes. SwitchBot's Matter compatibility article says SwitchBot products connect through Matter over Bridge or Matter over Wi-Fi. Matter over Bridge devices need a SwitchBot bridge; Matter over Wi-Fi devices such as the Air Purifier don't. SwitchBot's Matter over Wi-Fi guide also says a Matter-supported hub or controller is required, such as an Apple HomePod, Apple TV or Google Nest device.

Is the SwitchBot Hub 3 a Matter hub?

SwitchBot's pages describe the Hub 3 as a Matter bridge, and none of these sources calls it a Matter controller. Its store page says it "Works as a Matter Bridge (up to 30 sub-devices)," and the CSA listing shows Wi-Fi and Bluetooth transport with primary device type ID 0x000E.

What's the difference between Hub Mini Matter Enabled and Hub 2 for Matter?

Hub 2 syncs up to 8 sub-devices and has a built-in temperature and humidity sensor. Hub Mini Matter Enabled syncs up to 4 sub-devices and only supports temperature and humidity with a dedicated charging cord that has a built-in sensor, which you request from SwitchBot support.

Is a SwitchBot hub a Thread border router?

No source here says so. SwitchBot's Help Center says SwitchBot devices support Wi-Fi, BLE, Wi-Fi + BLE, NFC, or NFC + BLE protocols, and the Hub 3 store page lists only 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy. No SwitchBot hub is described as using Thread.

Where do I find the SwitchBot Matter pairing code?

It depends on the device. SwitchBot's guides give these paths: Hub 2 and Hub 3, gear icon > Matter Setup (Beta); Hub Mini Matter Enabled, Settings icon > Matter settings; Lock Pro Matter Enabled, gear icon > Matter Setup. For the Air Purifier, SwitchBot's Matter over Wi-Fi guide says to tap Connect Device and copy the code from the relevant page in the app; its SmartThings steps use the device's settings page > Matter Setup. The hub guides also point to a QR code on the hub: the side or back of Hub 2, the back of Hub 3 and Hub Mini Matter Enabled.

Why isn't my SwitchBot device showing up in Apple Home?

Check Apple Home > Home Settings > Home Hubs & Bridges > your hub > Accessories. Some devices such as Motion Sensor don't generate a card by default. Also make sure everything is on the same 2.4 GHz network and that you didn't add several sub-devices within one second.

Does SwitchBot work with Home Assistant over Matter?

Yes. Home Assistant's SwitchBot Matter page says devices are certified via Hub 2 or Hub 3, with some standalone over Matter over Wi-Fi. The brand was introduced in Home Assistant 2025.6 with Local Push. The AI Hub's built-in Home Assistant doesn't support the Matter integration, but the AI Hub itself can act as a Matter bridge.
