Eve and Matter: which Eve devices work with Matter, how the Matter upgrade works, and which hub you need
Yes — Eve's Matter page lists Eve devices that come with Matter compatibility, and they use Thread. Some older Thread-enabled Eve models get a free, one-way Matter firmware upgrade through the Eve app on iPhone or iPad, while other Eve models don't, according to Eve's Identify page. You need a hub that's both a Matter controller and a Thread border router for your first platform, and only a Matter controller for each additional platform, per Eve's hub page.

The table above is Eve's Identify page view of Thread-capable models, with that page's own filter tags for "Matter update available" and "Ships with Matter." The page shows one line per accessory, including duplicate model names with different years and different tags, so check your model number rather than the product name alone.
Eve devices that ship with Matter
On the Identify page, models tagged "Ships with Matter: Yes" include newer versions of Eve Energy, Eve Door & Window, Eve Motion, Eve Thermo, Eve Weather, Eve Light Switch, Eve Shutter Switch, Eve MotionBlinds, plus Eve Energy Outdoor, Eve Energy Outlet, Eve Dimmer Switch, Eve Thermo Control, Eve Thermostat (Europe) and the 2026 small-diameter Eve MotionBlinds motor. Newer versions of some products carry "/ Matter" in the name, such as "Eve Energy (Europe, 4th generation / Matter)," or a later year on the Identify page. If you're checking a specific model, the CSA certification guide explains how to verify what was actually certified.
Older Eve devices that can be upgraded to Matter
Eve's upgrade-to-Matter page lists these Thread-enabled devices as eligible for a free firmware upgrade: Eve Energy (Australia, Europe, U.K., U.S. & Canada), Eve Door & Window, Eve Light Switch (U.S. & Canada), Eve Motion, Eve MotionBlinds for Roller Blinds, Eve Shutter Switch, Eve Thermo, and Eve Weather. Eve's March 28, 2023 press release says the first upgrades — for Eve Energy, Eve Motion and Eve Door & Window — would be released on April 17, 2023. On the Identify page, the older Thread-capable generations of those products are tagged "Matter update available: Yes."
Eve devices without Matter
The Identify page tags many models "Matter update available: No" and "Ships with Matter: No." That includes Bluetooth-only models such as Eve Button, Eve Smoke, Eve Window Guard, and the first generations of Eve Energy, Eve Door & Window, Eve Motion, Eve Room, Eve Thermo and Eve Weather. It also includes some Thread-capable models: Eve Aqua (2nd and 3rd generation), Eve Room (3rd generation), Eve Water Guard (2nd generation), and Eve Light Switch (Europe, 2nd generation) are all tagged No for both Matter fields. Eve Flare (2nd generation) has blank tags for both fields on the Identify page, so that page doesn't say either way. Eve's Matter page says Wi-Fi Eve devices stay HomeKit-only, and the upgrade page says "The entire lineup of Thread-enabled Eve devices will receive free Matter firmware updates over time" but adds "We don't have a timeline and order to share at this time." The Eve Aqua FAQ describes Eve Aqua as a "HomeKit-enabled accessory," which matches its No/No tags.
How the Eve Matter upgrade works
Eve's upgrade-to-Matter page says the upgrade is for people who bought a Thread-enabled Eve device in the past and want to use it from an additional platform. Eve's own words: upgrading "is worthwhile if you want to control your Eve devices from an additional platform," and "If your household uses Apple devices exclusively, upgrading to Matter is optional." The upgrade is one-way — once you've moved a device to Matter, you can't migrate it back to HomeKit.
What you need before upgrading
The upgrade page lists these requirements: an iPhone or iPad with the latest version of iOS/iPadOS, a Thread Border Router-capable home hub such as HomePod (2nd gen.), HomePod mini, or Apple TV 4K (2nd gen. / 3rd gen. 128 GB), and the new HomeKit architecture. The upgrade is done through the Eve app for iPhone and iPad — the page doesn't describe an Android path for the HomeKit-to-Matter migration. For more on what changes when you move from HomeKit to Matter, see the Matter vs HomeKit guide.
Upgrade steps in the Eve app
- Update your iPhone or iPad and your home hub to the latest software.
- Open the Eve app and go to Settings > Accessories, then tap the device you want to upgrade.
- Tap Upgrade to Matter.
- Let the Eve app guide you through the upgrade and data migration. Eve says the process takes about 10 minutes, and you shouldn't disconnect the device from power while it runs.
- Save the Matter Setup Code when it's generated — the app can store it automatically, and you can use AirDrop, Email, Photos, Files, or print it.
- Check Details > Compatibility to confirm the device has been upgraded to Matter.
Firmware updates after the Matter migration are covered separately in the firmware update guide.
What changes after the upgrade
The upgrade page says the Matter Setup Code "will completely replace the HomeKit setup code." After migration, energy consumption or event logs "may take a while" to appear in the Eve app. Eve-specific features like energy monitoring, historical data and on-device schedules "are currently not supported by all platforms." In Apple Home, you can combine Matter and HomeKit-enabled accessories in automations and scenes — Apple Home makes no difference between them. The Eve Thermo Control FAQ adds one product-specific requirement: Eve Thermo (4th generation) must be upgraded to Matter before you can assign Eve Thermo Control to it.
Which hub Eve devices need
Eve's hub page explains the rule: your first platform needs a hub that's both a Matter controller and a Thread border router. Each additional platform only needs a Matter controller, because Thread is already present in your home from the first hub. The full hub-and-border-router picture across brands is in the hubs and Thread border routers guide, and the Thread vs Wi-Fi guide explains why the transport matters.
Hubs Eve lists for your first platform
Eve's hub page lists these "Matter Controllers with Thread Border Router functionality": for Apple — Apple TV 4K (3rd gen, 128 GB), Apple TV 4K (2nd gen), HomePod (2nd gen), HomePod mini; for SmartThings — Aeotec Smart Home Hub, Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2, select Samsung QLED / Neo QLED / OLED TVs (2023 and later), select Samsung The Frame / The Serif TVs (2024 and later), select Samsung Bespoke AI Laundry Combos, Family Hub Fridges, Projectors, Smart Monitors and Soundbars, SmartThings Hub V3, SmartThings Station; for Alexa — Echo (4th gen), Echo Dot Max, Echo Hub, Echo Plus (2nd gen), Echo Show 8 (3rd+ gen), Echo Show 10 (3rd gen), Echo Show 11, Echo Show 15 (2nd gen), Echo Show 21, Echo Studio, eero 6, eero 6+, eero 7, eero Max 7, eero Pro 6, eero Pro 6E, eero Pro 7; for Home Assistant — Home Assistant Green & Home Assistant Connect ZBT-1 / ZBT-2 and Home Assistant Yellow, with the page's wording "Requires Matter & OpenThread add-on in Home Assistant and Home Assistant Companion App for iPhone or Android" and "Setup is also supported with other compatible Thread Border Routers or Home Assistant OS installations"; for Homey — Homey Pro and Homey Pro mini; for Google — Google TV Streamer, Nest Hub (2nd gen), Nest Hub Max, Nest Wifi Pro. Eve's support page notes that HomePod (1st gen) and previous Apple TV models "will not work with Matter-enabled Eve devices."
Hubs for a second platform
For additional platforms, Eve's hub page lists "Matter Controllers - only for additional platforms in your home." The Apple list adds Apple TV 4K (3rd gen, 64 GB), Apple TV 4K (1st gen), Apple TV HD / Apple TV (4th gen), and HomePod (1st gen). The SmartThings list adds SmartThings Hub V2. The Alexa list adds Echo (2nd gen / 3rd gen), Echo Dot (2nd+ gen), Echo Flex, Echo Input, Echo Pop, Echo Show 5, Echo Show 8 (1st / 2nd gen), and Echo Show 15. The Google list adds Google Home Speaker, Google Home, Google Home Mini, Nest Mini, Nest Audio, Nest Hub (1st gen). Home Assistant lists Home Assistant Green and Home Assistant Yellow with "Requires Matter add-on in Home Assistant and Home Assistant Companion App for iPhone or Android." Homey lists Homey Pro and Homey Pro mini.
Eve devices and your Thread network
Eve's Thread page and product FAQs split Eve Thread devices into two roles. Mains-powered devices that are always on — such as Eve Energy, Eve Light Switch, Eve Shutter Switch or Eve Water Guard, depending on which page you're reading — are Full Thread Devices that can act as router nodes. Battery-operated devices — such as Eve Aqua, Eve Door & Window, Eve Motion, Eve MotionBlinds, Eve Room, Eve Thermo and Eve Weather — are Minimal Thread Devices, or endpoints. The Eve app has a Thread Network view in its Settings area where you can see which nodes your devices use. No Eve source here calls any Eve device a Thread border router or a Matter controller, and Eve's Matter page says "there is no Eve cloud or bridge." The same page says "Matter is designed to work entirely locally without a cloud, and so is Eve." The local control guide covers what Matter does without the internet in general.
Using Eve with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings and Home Assistant
Eve's pages name Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings as platforms, and the Eve Energy product page adds Home Assistant. Each platform has its own hub list and its own way of adding Matter devices, so the sections below keep them separate.
Apple Home
For Apple Home, Eve's hub page lists Apple TV 4K (3rd gen, 128 GB), Apple TV 4K (2nd gen), HomePod (2nd gen) and HomePod mini as first-platform hubs. Eve's upgrade page says iCloud and iCloud Keychain are required to add Matter devices to Apple Home. Apple's own support page 102135 says the Home app supports Matter accessories including outlets, switches, thermostats, blinds and shades, and sensors, and that paired Matter accessories sync using iCloud Keychain. More detail is in the Apple Home Matter guide.
Google Home
For Google Home, Eve's hub page lists Google TV Streamer, Nest Hub (2nd gen), Nest Hub Max and Nest Wifi Pro as first-platform hubs. The Eve for Android listing says the app works with devices "connected through the Google Home platform." Google's own Matter preparation page says you need a Matter-enabled hub and that IPv6 must be enabled on your network. See the Google Home Matter guide for the full picture.
Alexa
For Alexa, Eve's hub page lists Echo and eero devices as first-platform hubs, including Echo (4th gen), Echo Hub, Echo Plus (2nd gen), Echo Show 8 (3rd+ gen), Echo Show 10 (3rd gen), Echo Show 11, Echo Show 15 (2nd gen), Echo Show 21, Echo Studio, and the eero 6 / Pro 6 / 7 / Max 7 lines. The Eve Thermo FAQ says on-device schedules are "currently not supported for the Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings platform." Amazon's own Matter setup page walks through adding a Matter device in the Alexa app. The Alexa Matter guide has more.
SmartThings
For SmartThings, Eve's hub page lists Aeotec Smart Home Hub, Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2, SmartThings Hub V3, SmartThings Station, and select Samsung TVs, Bespoke AI Laundry Combos, Family Hub Fridges, Projectors, Smart Monitors and Soundbars. The Eve Energy product page says "Energy management features currently available on the Samsung SmartThings and Home Assistant platforms." The Eve Thermo FAQ says on-device schedules aren't supported on SmartThings. SmartThings' own Matter integration page explains that Thread devices need a Matter controller with a Thread border router. See the SmartThings Matter guide.
Home Assistant
For Home Assistant, Eve's hub page lists Home Assistant Green & Home Assistant Connect ZBT-1 / ZBT-2 and Home Assistant Yellow, with the Matter & OpenThread add-on and Companion App requirement. The Eve Energy product page names Home Assistant and says energy management features are available there. Home Assistant's own Matter integration docs describe commissioning via the Companion app and the multi-fabric feature for joining one device to several controllers. The Home Assistant Matter guide covers it in depth.
What MatterCheck's data says for Eve's device types
MatterCheck's data covers 24 Matter device types on five platforms, and MatterCheck tracks 106 products. Six of them are Eve products — Eve Energy (Matter), Eve Door & Window (Matter), Eve Motion (Matter), Eve Thermo (Matter), Eve MotionBlinds (Matter), and Eve Weather — in its platform checks. The results below are per Matter device type and platform, not tests of Eve products.
| Eve product MatterCheck tracks → Matter device type | Apple Home | Google Home | Alexa | SmartThings | Home Assistant |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eve Energy (Matter) → Matter plug / outlet | Yes (High) | Yes (High) | Yes (Med) | Yes (High) | Yes (High) |
| Eve Door & Window (Matter) → Matter contact sensor | Yes (High) | Yes (High) | Yes (High) | Yes (High) | Yes (High) |
| Eve Motion (Matter) → Matter motion / occupancy sensor | Yes (High) | Yes (High) | Yes (High) | Yes (High) | Yes (High) |
| Eve Thermo (Matter) → Matter thermostat | Yes (Med) | Yes (Med) | Yes (Med) | Yes (Med) | Yes (High) |
| Eve MotionBlinds (Matter) → Matter blind / shade | Yes (High) | Yes (High) | Yes (Med) | Yes (High) | Yes (High) |
| Eve Weather → Matter temperature / humidity sensor | Yes (High) | Yes (High) | Yes (Med) | Yes (High) | Yes (High) |
MatterCheck's data shows that every one of the six device types pairs on all five platforms. Contact sensors and motion sensors are High confidence on all five platforms. Alexa's automation-trigger result is Unknown (Med confidence) for plugs, thermostats and blinds. Thermostats are Med confidence everywhere except Home Assistant (High), and Apple Home's thermostat trigger is Unknown. Temperature / humidity on Alexa is Med confidence. The five-platform comparison puts these results next to each other, and the tracked-products list shows which Eve models MatterCheck follows. You can also drill into the type guides for smart plugs, contact sensors, motion sensors, temperature / humidity sensors, thermostats and blinds and shades.
Adding an Eve device to a second platform
Once an Eve device is on Matter, you can share it with a second platform. Eve's upgrade page gives these Apple Home steps: open Apple Home, press and hold the tile of your device, choose Accessory Details, tap the gear icon in the lower right corner, tap Turn on Pairing Mode, wait for Apple Home to display the Setup Code, then use that code on your secondary platform.
The second platform only needs a compatible Matter controller — Thread is already present from your first hub. Eve's second-platform page offers a platform picker (Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings) with a video per pair, not written steps. One product limit: the Eve Thermo Control FAQ says it's not currently possible to control Eve Thermo with Eve Thermo Control using Alexa, Google Home, or Samsung SmartThings. The multi-admin guide explains sharing one device with several apps, and the adding a device guide covers first-time pairing.
The Eve app on iPhone, iPad and Android
Eve's app page describes the iPhone and iPad app for controlling HomeKit-enabled accessories, with scenes, timers, rules and a Settings area. The Thread page says the Thread Network view lives in the Eve app's Settings area.
The Eve for Android listing on Google Play, updated Aug 3, 2026, says the Android app supports Matter-enabled Eve devices "connected through the Google Home platform." Its opening list names Eve Energy, Eve Thermostat (EU), Eve Dimmer Switch, Eve Light Switch, Eve Shutter Switch and Eve Thermo (4th gen. and newer); the later "What's new" list adds Eve Weather. The listing says the app has "no registration, no additional accounts, and no subscriptions," and that data is transferred directly between the Eve device and the app. The Eve Thermo FAQ and the Eve Energy product page both say the Eve app is on iPhone/iPad for Apple Home and on Android for Google Home. No Eve source here names an Eve app for Alexa, SmartThings or Home Assistant.
Eve Matter setup codes, resets and devices that stop responding
The Matter Setup Code
During the HomeKit-to-Matter upgrade, the Eve app generates a Matter Setup Code. Eve's upgrade page says it "will completely replace the HomeKit setup code," that it's "the only way to add your Eve device if you ever reset it," and that "nobody but you has a copy." The code is stored automatically in the Eve app, and you can save it via AirDrop, Email, Photos, Files, or print. No Eve source here gives a recovery path for a lost Matter Setup Code — if you lose it, these pages don't say you can retrieve it. The lost setup code guide explains what that means across Matter devices generally.
How to reset an Eve device
- Eve Energy (Eve's FAQ): plug it in and press the reset button until the LED flashes red.
- Eve Motion (Eve's FAQ): press the reset button inside the battery door with a paper clip until the red LED blinks 5 times.
- Eve Door & Window (Eve's FAQ): press the reset button inside the battery door with a paper clip until the red LED blinks.
- Eve Weather (Eve's FAQ): press and hold the button for 10 seconds.
- Eve Aqua (Eve's FAQ): press the button on the front until the LED starts flashing, then release it immediately.
- Eve Light Switch (U.S. & Canada) (Eve's FAQ): 3rd and 2nd generation — press the button with two fingers until the yellow LED lights up, then release. 1st generation — press the button with your finger until the yellow LED lights up, then release.
- Eve MotionBlinds (Eve's FAQ): hold the program button for 10 seconds; the LED lights up 5 times and the blind steps up and down once.
- Eve Thermo (5th generation) (Eve's FAQ): open the battery compartment, press and hold the button labeled "RESET" until you see "00" blinking.
- Eve Thermo (4th generation) (Eve's FAQ): press the reset button under the battery compartment until the digits 66/99 flash.
- Eve Thermo Control (Eve's FAQ): touch both capacitive controls simultaneously until the reset icon appears, then press the Reset button on the back within 30 seconds.
For an Eve device on Matter, Eve's upgrade page says the Matter Setup Code is "the only way to add your Eve device if you ever reset it." The remove and factory-reset guide covers the general Matter reset flow.
If an Eve device is not responding or won't re-add
- Soft reboot the Eve device by pulling out the batteries for one minute, then putting them back in — or pull the plug for one minute, then plug it back in (Eve support page).
- Reboot all hubs or Thread Border Router by unplugging them for a minute, then plugging them back in, and wait 5 minutes (Eve support page).
- Reboot your smartphone and try again (Eve support page).
- Do not use VPN or iCloud Private Relay (Eve support page).
- Update your iPhone and home hub to the latest iOS/iPadOS/tvOS, and restart the home hub if the issue persists (upgrade page).
- If re-adding after migration fails, reset the device and make sure you're using the correct Matter Setup Code (upgrade page).
- For Apple Home, make sure iCloud and iCloud Keychain are turned on in your iPhone's settings (upgrade page).
The offline device guide and the device not pairing guide go deeper on these symptoms.
Eve firmware and the CSA listing
The Connectivity Standards Alliance's certified product listing for Eve Energy shows family SKU 20EBU4101, firmware version 3.5.0, certified date 08/29/2024, specification version 1.3, transport interface Thread and Bluetooth, and primary device type ID 0x010a. That's what was certified at that date, not necessarily what a current Eve Energy plug runs today. Eve's March 28, 2023 press release dates the first Matter-enabled Eve Energy models and the April 17, 2023 upgrades for Eve Energy, Eve Motion and Eve Door & Window. For other models, the upgrade page only says updates will come "over time" with no timeline or order to share.
