Tapo and Kasa with Matter: which TP-Link devices are Matter-certified, how to set them up, and where the setup code is
Yes, for the models TP-Link lists — the Tapo and Kasa models on TP-Link's Matter-certified product list work with Matter. That list covers plugs, switches, one bulb and four Tapo hubs. It marks four Tapo sensors and the S200D remote dimmer as reaching Matter through a Tapo hub, though FAQ 3754 says buttons, including the S200D, aren't currently compatible. TP-Link strongly recommends setting a device up in the Tapo or Kasa app first, then sharing it to Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or SmartThings. Most third-party setups need a Matter hub, and some features stay in TP-Link's own app.

Matter-certified plugs, switches and bulbs
The list names these plugs: Tapo P110M, Tapo P400M, EP40M, Tapo P125M, KP125MP2 and KP125MP4. The switches are KS225P3, TS15, TS25, Tapo S505, Tapo S505D, KS205, KS225, KS205P3, Tapo S515 and Tapo S515D KIT, plus the Tapo S200D remote dimmer, which is marked as supporting Matter via a Tapo hub (covered below). The only bulb on the list is the Tapo L535E V3. The Tapo P110M product page says it is "Matter Certified," and the Kasa KP125M product page says the same for that plug.
Two support FAQs name further models in their "This Article Applies to" lists. FAQ 3777 (updated January 27, 2026) includes Tapo P116M, P316M, P306, P430M, KS240 and the Tapo RV20 Max, RV30 Max and RV50 Omni, among others. FAQ 3574 (updated November 6, 2025) names Tapo P100M, P100MA, P110MA, P115M, P135Kit, P300M, P304M, P430M, PW15, PW25, SW15, TP15, TP25, TL135E and Tapo RV50 Pro Omni (V1). Those are the FAQs' own applicability lists, not the product list, so treat them as separate sources. You can also check a device against the CSA's certification database — see how to check CSA certification.
Tapo sensors and the S200D through a Tapo hub
The product list marks Tapo T100, T110, T310, T315 and Tapo S200D with an asterisk: "Support Matter Via Tapo Hub." TP-Link's Matter page says "a Tapo Hub acts as a bridge, allowing you to connect any Tapo sensor (even those that aren't Matter certified) to the Matter ecosystem." The Community knowledge-base article Add Your Sub-G Sensors to Other Platforms via Matter Bridging names the T100 motion sensor, T110 contact sensor, and T310/T315 temperature and humidity sensors as compatible, and says the S200B/D and T300 are "not yet compatible." That conflicts with the product list's asterisk on the S200D, so both are reported here. For the T300 leak sensor, FAQ 3754 says it can be linked via the Tapo H110 but "Tapo H100 compatibility is not yet available." See how Matter bridges work for the general pattern.
Models that aren't on the list
If a model isn't on TP-Link's product list or a cited FAQ, these sources don't say whether it supports Matter. Check the list and the box for the Matter badge. Note that Home Assistant's TP-Link Smart Home integration lists many models it can control — that integration is not Matter, so its supported-device list doesn't indicate Matter certification.
Tapo app, Kasa app and Matter
FAQ 3520 (last updated April 17, 2026) describes two setup options: through the Tapo or Kasa app first, or directly in a third-party Matter app. It says TP-Link "strongly recommends setting up your Matter-enabled device through the Tapo or Kasa app first," because that "ensures full access to all device features and avoids potential compatibility issues."
The Tapo app and Kasa app relationship is separate from Matter. FAQ 3762 (last updated September 24, 2026) says that with Tapo app version 3.0 or later you can add Kasa devices to the Tapo app by linking your Kasa account or adding them directly, and that KE100 and KE110 are currently not compatible. Linking uses Link Tapo with Kasa under Me and requires the same TP-Link ID on both apps. TP-Link's January 9, 2024 press release says Kasa Smart and Tapo "remain distinct and independent brands" despite the Tapo App 3.0 integration. Linking Kasa to Tapo is not Matter commissioning.
The Community article General Troubleshooting and Setup Tips for Matter Devices puts it plainly: "Adding a Device to the Tapo App is completely separate from Matter," and "Onboard Device Controls are Only Available through the Tapo App (ie. Timers, Schedules, Away Modes)."
How to add a Tapo or Kasa device to Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or SmartThings
TP-Link's FAQ 3564 (last updated August 28, 2026) gives step-by-step instructions for each platform, and FAQ 3520 covers the general flow. The short version: set up in the Tapo or Kasa app first, then generate a code to share to another platform — or factory-reset and set up directly in the other app.
Before you start
- A Matter hub for the platform you're adding to. FAQ 3520's hub tables were "collected in March 2026" — for Apple: HomePod (2nd gen), HomePod Mini, HomePod (1st gen, Wi-Fi only), Apple TV 4K (3rd gen); for Google: Nest Wifi Pro, Nest Audio, Nest Mini, Google Home Mini, Google Home (original), Nest Hub (1st and 2nd gen), Nest Hub Max, Google TV Streamer 4K; for Alexa: Echo and Echo Dot (2nd gen and newer), Echo Dot with Clock (3rd gen and newer), Echo Show 21, Echo Show 15 (1st and 2nd gen), Echo Show 10 (3rd gen), Echo Show 8 and Echo Show 5 (1st to 3rd gen), eero 6 and 6+, eero Beacon, eero Max 7, eero PoE 6, eero PoE gateway, eero Pro, eero Pro 6E and eero Pro 6, plus Echo Input, Flex, Plus (v2), Pop, Spot and Studio; for SmartThings: Aeotec Smart Home Hub, Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2, SmartThings Hub V3, SmartThings Station, and select Samsung TVs, fridges, projectors, monitors and soundbars. See Matter hubs and Thread border routers for the general requirements.
- Minimum app versions per FAQ 3520: Google Home app 2.62.1.15 or later; Alexa app 2.2.491118.0 or later; iOS 16.2 or later for Apple Home; SmartThings app 1.7.91 or higher on Android, or iOS 16.2 or higher with SmartThings app 1.6.94 or higher on iPhone.
- With iOS 18 or later you can add Matter devices to Apple Home without a hub, but without a hub you can't control accessories remotely, share control, or use automations (FAQ 3520).
- Bluetooth on your phone, because Matter setup uses Bluetooth for commissioning.
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for the device and your phone (FAQ 3573).
- IPv6 enabled on your local network (Community troubleshooting article).
- The 15-minute pairing window: Matter setup mode turns off after 15 minutes, and FAQ 3564 says to power-cycle the device if setup isn't completed within 15 minutes.
Setting up in the Tapo or Kasa app first
FAQ 3520 recommends setting the device up in the Tapo or Kasa app first, and FAQ 3564 says that for a device already configured in the Tapo app, you open the Matter Setup Code screen (for Tapo hubs, Bind to Matter) to generate a new code valid for 15 minutes, and add it in the other app. If you added the device to another platform first and want it in the Tapo app, FAQ 3564 says to connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi network as the Matter device, open the Tapo app, and the device will be found automatically — tap ADD DEVICE, or add it manually from Discovered Devices.
Setting up directly in a Matter app
For direct setup, factory-reset the device first, then follow the platform's flow from FAQ 3564:
- Alexa: Devices > + > Add Device > Matter.
- Google Home: +Add > Matter-enabled device. FAQ 3564 notes that without a Matter hub "you can only control them in the same network."
- Apple Home: + > Add or Scan Accessory.
- SmartThings: + > Add Device > Partner devices > Matter.
See how to add a Matter device for the general steps and what can go wrong.
The Tapo and Kasa Matter setup code
FAQ 3520 says the Matter setup code is printed on the device casing, and an additional setup code sticker is included in the packaging. The location varies: for a smart plug, "on the side of the device casing"; for a smart bulb, "in the middle of the casing, between the light sphere and the bulb base"; for a smart switch, "on the side of the casing near the button." The code only works for the first ecosystem — after that, you generate a new code from the first app (FAQ 3564).
If the printed code is unreadable or the sticker is lost, you can retrieve it in the Tapo app once the device is set up in the Tapo or Kasa app: Device Settings > Device Info > Matter Setup Code. The sources give no other recovery path for a device that was never added to TP-Link's app. FAQ 3777 lists "Get Matter setup code" as a Tapo/Kasa-only feature. The Community article Add Your Sub-G Sensors to Other Platforms via Matter Bridging warns that "On-Device Matter Codes are not Multi Admin Sharing Codes" — the printed QR code is for initial setup and won't work after the device is configured. FAQ 3520 suggests you "save the code to your phone's photo album for future reference." See what to do with a lost Matter setup code.
Adding a Tapo or Kasa device to a second platform
Matter's multi-admin support lets one device live in several apps. The printed setup code only works once, so for a second platform you generate a new code from the app where the device was first set up. FAQ 3573 (last updated August 28, 2026) gives the share steps per platform:
- Alexa: device settings > Other Assistants and Apps > Add Another to create an 11-digit setup code; the code expires in 15 minutes.
- Google Home: device settings > Linked Matter apps & services > Link apps & services; the pairing code expires in 3 minutes.
- Apple Home: device settings > Turn On Pairing Mode > Copy Code; the code expires in 5 minutes, and if you tap Dismiss you must wait 5 minutes to create a new one.
- SmartThings: device settings > Share with other services > Share or QR code; the code expires in 15 minutes.
- Tapo app: Matter Setup Code (or Bind to Matter for hubs) generates a code valid for 15 minutes.
The Community article General Troubleshooting and Setup Tips for Matter Devices gives different lifetimes: Alexa 15 minutes, Google Home 5 minutes, Apple Home 3 minutes. Both are reported here; check the app you're using. FAQ 3574 says don't create pairing codes in several apps in a row — if the first code hasn't been used or hasn't expired, subsequent codes are invalid. The Community articles say the maximum number of platforms depends on the device's "fabrics," with "most commonly seen is 5," that "Generally, One Platform = One Fabric," that traditional Wi-Fi setup through the Tapo app doesn't count as a fabric, and that Apple Home connections consume two fabrics. Sharing within one platform's accounts doesn't use a fabric. See sharing one Matter device with several apps.
What works in each platform, and what stays in the Tapo or Kasa app
FAQ 3777 (updated January 27, 2026) lists features supported in different ecosystems for TP-Link Matter-certified devices, and notes the supported features are "subject to change" as Matter develops.
| Device type or feature (TP-Link's wording) | Alexa | Apple | SmartThings | Tapo / Kasa app | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| On/Off Plug-in Unit | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Power strip (multi endpoints in one device) | No | Yes | Yes | No | Yes |
| Dimmer Switch | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Multi-gang switch (multi endpoints in one device) | No | Yes | Yes | No | Yes |
| Extended Color Light | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Robot Vacuum | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Control devices without a controller | No | No | No | No | Yes |
| Energy monitoring | No | No | No | Yes* | Yes (for devices supporting energy monitoring) |
| Firmware upgrade | Yes | No | Yes | No | Yes |
| Local control | Yes | No | Yes | No | Yes |

| Default state | No | No | No | No | Yes |
| Auto-off timer | No | No | No | No | Yes (for plug and light switch) |
| Remove devices from the app for factory reset | No | No | No | No | Yes |
The table shows some clear splits. Power strips and multi-gang switches are No on Alexa and SmartThings but Yes on Google and Apple. Firmware upgrade and local control are Yes on Alexa and Apple, No on Google and SmartThings. Energy monitoring is No on Alexa, Google and Apple, and "Yes*" on SmartThings — but the asterisk matters. Tapo FAQ 585 (last updated September 29, 2026) says SmartThings energy monitoring comes from linking the Tapo or Kasa service to SmartThings, not from Matter. If the plug was added over Matter first, reset it, set it up in Tapo/Kasa, then link the service. It also says SmartThings Energy doesn't support dimmer devices like the S515D. Getting the Matter setup code from the app, away mode, default state and auto-off timer are Yes only in the Tapo/Kasa app column. For robot vacuums, FAQ 3777 shows Standby and Start Mapping as Yes on Alexa and Google but No on Apple and SmartThings, while Pause Cleaning is No on Alexa but Yes on the other three. See Matter energy monitoring support and local control without internet.
Using Tapo and Kasa with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings and Home Assistant
Each platform has its own hub requirements and quirks. TP-Link's FAQs give the details below; the platform's own pages are the authoritative current source.
Apple Home
FAQ 3520 lists Apple's Matter hubs as HomePod (2nd gen), HomePod Mini, HomePod (1st gen, Wi-Fi only) and Apple TV 4K (3rd gen), with iOS 16.2 or later. With iOS 18 or later you can add Matter devices without a hub, but lose remote control, sharing and automations. FAQ 3574 says for Apple Home setup failures, upgrade to the new Home architecture and check the primary hub in Home Hubs & Bridges — the hub listed first must be connected. Apple's own support page says the Home app supports Matter accessories including bridges, lights, locks, outlets, switches, and sensors, and that paired Matter accessories sync using iCloud Keychain. See Apple Home's Matter support.
Google Home
FAQ 3520's Google hub list includes Nest Wifi Pro, Nest Audio, Nest Mini, Google Home Mini, Google Home (original), Nest Hub (1st and 2nd gen), Nest Hub Max and Google TV Streamer 4K, with Google Home app 2.62.1.15 or later. FAQ 3777 says firmware upgrade and local control are No on Google for TP-Link Matter devices. Google's own Matter page says you need a Matter-enabled hub and IPv6 enabled on your network. See Google Home's Matter support.
Alexa
FAQ 3520's Alexa hub list covers Echo and Echo Dot (2nd gen and newer), Echo Show models, eero routers, and Echo Input, Flex, Plus (v2), Pop, Spot and Studio, with Alexa app 2.2.491118.0 or later. FAQ 3777 says power strips and multi-gang switches are No on Alexa. FAQ 3574 says for Alexa setup, toggle Bluetooth off and on, and when the Wi-Fi page appears, select your 2.4 GHz network's SSID within 5 seconds. Amazon's own page says to install the device within 30 ft (9 m) of a compatible Alexa hub. See Alexa's Matter support.
SmartThings
FAQ 3520's SmartThings hub list includes Aeotec Smart Home Hub, Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2, SmartThings Hub V3, SmartThings Station, and select Samsung TVs, fridges, projectors, monitors and soundbars. FAQ 3777 says power strips and multi-gang switches are No on SmartThings, and energy monitoring needs the Tapo/Kasa service link per Tapo FAQ 585. SmartThings' own page says the Matter badge on packaging indicates whether the device needs a Thread border router. See SmartThings' Matter support.
Home Assistant
There are two separate routes. The Home Assistant Matter integration is Matter — the Community article Matter Controller Compatibility and Setup says Home Assistant "became an officially compatible Matter controller" and recommends considering adding devices via Matter for standardized control and local connectivity. The TP-Link Smart Home integration is not Matter: it connects locally without going via the TP-Link cloud, but newer Kasa or Tapo devices require your TP-Link cloud username and password for local access, and it polls devices every 5 seconds. Its supported list includes hubs and hub-attached sensors like the H100, H200, T100, T110, T300, T310 and T315. FAQ 4416 says the Third-Party Compatibility setting is disabled by default, may "reduce the security of your devices," and that TP-Link has "not officially advertised support for Home Assistant" — we report that warning without advising you to enable it. See Home Assistant's Matter support.
What MatterCheck's data says for TP-Link's device types
MatterCheck's data checks 24 Matter device types on five platforms. It tracks six TP-Link products of 106: Tapo P125M plug, Tapo S505 and Kasa KS205 switches (MatterCheck's data places both under the on/off light type), Tapo L535E V3 colour bulb, Tapo L730 downlight (colour-temperature light), and Tapo RV30 Max Plus robot vacuum. The results below are per device type and platform, not tests of those specific products. Each entry shows whether the type pairs, then whether it can start an automation, with MatterCheck's confidence in brackets; "bridged" marks a sensor that reaches Matter through a Tapo hub.
| TP-Link product → Matter device type | Apple Home | Google Home | Alexa | SmartThings | Home Assistant |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tapo P125M → Matter plug / outlet | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Unknown (Med) | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (High) |
| Tapo S505 / Kasa KS205 → Matter on/off light | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Unknown (Med) | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (High) |
| Tapo L535E V3 → Matter colour light | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Partial (Med) | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (High) |
| Tapo L730 → Matter colour-temperature light | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (Med) | Yes / Unknown (Med) | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (High) |
| Tapo RV30 Max Plus → Matter robot vacuum | Yes / No (Med) | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Unknown (Med) | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (High) |
| Tapo T110 (bridged) → Matter contact sensor | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (High) |
| Tapo T100 (bridged) → Matter motion / occupancy sensor | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (High) |
| Tapo T310 / T315 (bridged) → Matter temperature / humidity sensor | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (Med) | Yes / Yes (High) | Yes / Yes (High) |
MatterCheck's per-type data shows every type pairs on all five platforms. Alexa's automation-trigger result is Unknown (Med confidence) for plugs, on/off lights, colour-temperature lights and robot vacuums, and Partial (Med) for colour lights. Apple Home's robot-vacuum trigger is No (Med). Google Home's colour-temperature light result is Med confidence. Contact and motion sensors are High on all five platforms; temperature/humidity on Alexa is Med confidence. The three sensor rows are for native Matter sensors of that type — the Tapo T100, T110 and T310/T315 reach Matter through a hub's bridge, so those rows don't test the Tapo sensors themselves. See the five-platform comparison and the tracked-products list, plus the type pages for plugs, switches, bulbs, robot vacuums, contact sensors, motion sensors and temperature/humidity sensors.
Tapo hubs as Matter bridges, and the H500 as a Matter controller
FAQ 4616 (last updated September 21, 2026) defines the two roles: "A Matter Controller acts as the hub that discovers, pairs, and controls Matter-certified devices from any brand," while "A Matter Bridge allows non-Matter devices to join Matter ecosystems." The Tapo H500 supports both roles.
Bridging Tapo sensors to other platforms
The Community article Add Your Sub-G Sensors to Other Platforms via Matter Bridging says the Tapo H100, H110, H200 and H500 all support Matter Bridging, letting compatible sensors be seen by Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings, Apple Home and Home Assistant. The compatible sensors are T100, T110 and T310/T315. After adding the hub to the Tapo app, a QR code and manual pairing code are under Device Settings > Bind to Matter. The Choosing a Tapo Smart Hub article's table covers H100, H200 and H500 and calls the H110 "Coming Soon / Non-US Model." FAQ 3754 says after adding a Tapo hub to a third-party ecosystem, the Sub-1G devices connected to the hub (such as the Tapo T100, T310, T315 and S220) can be added to that ecosystem at the same time through the hub's Matter Bridge feature. The Tapo H100 firmware release notes show Matter Bridge arriving in firmware 1.5.4 (published December 29, 2023), with 1.5.5 (January 12, 2024) optimising it and 1.5.20 (September 27, 2024) adding support for Matter Bridge. The latest listed firmware, 1.7.10 (August 25, 2026), has no Matter line. The Community article says compatibility for supported sensors "is expected to expand via future hub updates; however, we do not have a current timeline to provide."
The Tapo H500 as a Matter controller
FAQ 4616 and FAQ 4371 say the H500 can add third-party Matter-certified devices to the Tapo app — "currently smart plugs and smart bulbs only." It does not support Thread, so it can't directly add Matter devices that require Thread. Tapo devices can't be added to it over Matter: FAQ 4371 says TP-Link restricted adding Tapo devices to the Tapo CentralHub via Matter because Matter only provides universal controls, not Tapo's full feature set. Since the H500 doesn't support Bluetooth, it can only be added to third-party ecosystems via on-network discovery. For camera bridging, H500 firmware 1.3.28 or later enables supported non-Matter cameras to connect to third-party Matter controllers through the bridge; TP-Link writes that additional camera models will be added "gradually, with all camera models expected to be supported by Q1 2027" — that's TP-Link's stated expectation, not a promise. Matter-certified and dual-lens cameras are not supported through the H500 bridge.
Deco as a Matter controller
FAQ 3830 says Deco works as a central controller to manage Matter-certified devices such as smart bulbs, plugs and switches through the Deco app's Smart Home module, and that communication can happen directly on the local network. The product list also names Deco mesh Wi-Fi systems including Deco BE95 and Deco X55.
Do Tapo and Kasa devices use Thread?
Most of the listed Tapo and Kasa plugs, switches and the bulb have Wi-Fi in their product-list names. FAQ 4616 says the Tapo H500 "does not support the Thread protocol, so it cannot directly add Matter devices that require Thread." TP-Link's Matter page says Matter "can operate over common network technologies like Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and Thread" — that's about Matter generally, not about Tapo or Kasa devices. No source here names a Tapo or Kasa Thread device or a Tapo, Kasa or Deco Thread border router. None of these sources says a Wi-Fi Tapo or Kasa device needs a Thread border router; FAQ 3520 says a Matter hub is required for most third-party app setups. See Thread vs Wi-Fi for Matter.
Resets, removal and devices that won't pair or respond
How to reset a Tapo or Kasa Matter device
FAQ 3520 says to press and hold the Reset button for at least 10 seconds to factory-reset and re-enable pairing mode. For smart plugs, the power button also functions as the Reset button. For smart switches, the Reset button is below the on/off button. For smart bulbs, repeat the power cycle three times for Tapo bulbs or five times for Kasa bulbs, pausing one second between each cycle, and wait for the bulb to blink three times. See removing and factory-resetting Matter devices.
Removing a device from one app or all apps
FAQ 3520 says if a Matter device is removed from one connected app, it can still be controlled through other connected apps. If it's removed from all Matter apps, you may need to restart or reset it to put it back into pairing mode. Removing a Matter-enabled device from the Tapo or Kasa app "triggers a factory reset," and it will appear as unresponsive in other connected apps. If the Matter hub disconnects or is removed, the device "will become unresponsive" until the hub reconnects. See a Matter device that's offline or not responding.
If setup fails
- Make sure the device has the latest firmware — check in the Tapo app under Me > Firmware Update (FAQ 3574).
- Keep the Matter controller and the Tapo/Kasa device on the same local network — no Guest Network, IoT Network or VLAN separation (FAQ 3574).
- Disable AP isolation if it's enabled on your access points or mesh nodes (Community troubleshooting article).
- Enable IPv6 on your local network — Matter is based on IPv6 addressing (Community troubleshooting article).
- Use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for the device and your phone (FAQ 3573).
- Turn Bluetooth on, and check the third-party app's Bluetooth permission (FAQ 3574).
- Power-cycle the device after the 15-minute pairing window expires (FAQ 3564).
- Don't create pairing codes in several apps in a row — the first code must be used or expire before a new one is valid (FAQ 3574).
- Reboot the Matter hub, the device and your phone, and clear the app cache (FAQ 3574).

Frequently asked questions
Is Tapo Matter compatible?
Yes, for the models on TP-Link's Matter-certified product list. That includes plugs, switches, the Tapo L535E V3 bulb and four Tapo hubs. The list marks the Tapo T100, T110, T310 and T315 sensors as supporting Matter via a Tapo hub; it marks the S200D the same way, but FAQ 3754 says buttons, including the S200D, aren't currently compatible.
Which Kasa devices support Matter?
TP-Link's product list names these Kasa models: EP40M, KP125MP2, KP125MP4, KS225P3, KS205, KS225 and KS205P3. It also lists the TS15 and TS25 switches without a brand name. FAQ 3777's "This Article Applies to" list also names KS240 and KP125M, which aren't on the product list.
Where do I find the Tapo Matter setup code?
It's printed on the device casing, with an extra sticker in the packaging. In the Tapo app, once the device is set up there, go to Device Settings > Device Info > Matter Setup Code. For Tapo hubs, use Bind to Matter.
Can I use Tapo Matter devices without a hub?
With iOS 18 or later you can add Matter devices to Apple Home without a hub, but you lose remote control, sharing and automations. For Google Home, FAQ 3564 says without a Matter hub "you can only control them in the same network." Most third-party setups need a hub.
Is the Tapo H100 a Matter hub?
The H100 is a Matter bridge, not a Matter controller. It bridges compatible Tapo sensors, such as the T100, T110 and T310/T315, to third-party platforms. The H100 firmware notes show Matter Bridge support arriving in firmware 1.5.4 (December 29, 2023).
Do Tapo devices use Matter over Thread?
No source here names a Tapo or Kasa Thread device. The product list names its plugs, switches and bulb with Wi-Fi in most model names, and FAQ 4616 says the Tapo H500 does not support Thread.
Does Tapo work with Home Assistant?
Two routes exist. Home Assistant's Matter integration can add Matter devices, and the Community article says Home Assistant is an officially compatible Matter controller. Home Assistant's TP-Link Smart Home integration is not Matter — it connects locally but needs TP-Link cloud credentials for newer devices. FAQ 4416 says TP-Link has "not officially advertised support for Home Assistant."
